Review: HTC EVO 4G LTE for Sprint
Say It's Not So.
As an original Evo owner since day one, I have not been more happier with a phone. It has performed excellently and kept up with the Jones' for the last two years. However, time has taken a toll on the charging port and I need to retire the old girl. I have waited for HTC's new offering of the HTC LTE.
I'm sorry Eric, but I am taken back by your review. It appears you're more angry at Sprint's 3G network and lack of LTE and have indirectly taken it out on the device by telling people to wait. I am sure many others are in a similar position as myself of hardware issues that have been waiting.
I didn't have WiMAX when the Evo came out and I will not have LTE as this ne...

The phone industry has become the new PC industry. Some of us cannot always keep waiting for the next product release or latest technology. Quad-core is coming and so is a more wide spread coverage of LTE. However, many of us simply cannot wait. We need to upgrade very soon or now, or risk loosing our phones altogether.
So yes Dreyfous, this phone is another beautiful offering that I am waiting to purchase. It has amazing features t...

It's well documented that Sprint's 3G has been having issues. There are many complants and not just from their customers but from tech reviewers as well. PhoneDog and Gizmodo have complained about it. Matter of fact:

Apparently Eric wasn't the only one who had problems in NYC. I have friends, relatives on Boost, Virgin (dont ask why...

I didn't blame Eric for Sprint speeds. I know better than that. The review did convey that everyone should wait to purchase this phone. Based on the reasoning, it should mean that everyone should wait on ALL of Sprint's LTE phones. The logic of reality is that not everyone can wait. Some of us have surpassed our two year contract and have issues that need to be addressed immediately or risk loosing our phones. I'm not going to spend money on a phone that lacks features and will not take full advantage of LTE when it arrives. Currently, Evo LTE will.
Smartphones are the new PCs. Purchase the most of what you can afford at time of that purchase to be more equipped for ...

Yes, the mobile broadband speeds are outright pathetic, and that's Sprint's fault, not HTC's. The point I was trying to make is that for some users, fast mobile broadband is just as vital as a good screen or a good camera.
If you've gotten used to using a WiMax (or other) 4G phone over the years, dialing back to 3G speeds can be frustrating and lead to a negative user experience. I used the One X and EVO 4G LTE side-by-side for 5 days. The comparison is like a race between a turtle and Danica Patrick in a Formula 1 race car. It's not even close. When I am in a hurry and want to get stuff done, I want the fastest phone -- and network -- poss...

Thanks for the candid response. I really meant no disrespect.
There is no question that speeds are important to most people. I understand the speed annoyance. That's the problem with spoiling ourselves with the newest technology. Unfortunately, the 4G moniker is currently all transitional right now. Other carrier'sv"4g" phones cannot access 4G in many of their respective networks yet either, So I guess it's important to segregate the broadband technology from the internal aspects of the device reviewed until "4G" has made its way as a common ground for everyone otherwise it will be carrier vs carrier rather than the actual phone content.
I would like to thank you for understanding my beef. I just wanted to clarify that this ...

I bought the EVO 4G (and the EVO 3D) despite not having WiMAX in my area. They were still great phones, and it looks like this one will be as well. For that, Eric, thanks for listening to Slammer's feedback on the Wrap-Up.
