It's well documented that Sprint's 3G has been having issues. There are many complants and not just from their customers but from tech reviewers as well. PhoneDog and Gizmodo have complained about it. Matter of fact:

Apparently Eric wasn't the only one who had problems in NYC. I have friends, relatives on Boost, Virgin (dont ask why I'm ashamed to even mention it lol) and they all get horrible download speeds. 0.2Mbps, 0.3Mbps with the speedtest.net app. Even my co-worker with a Sprint iPhone gets those awful speeds and says the internet at times is at a standstill. Is that really what one would call 3G? At least Verizon will guarantee you 1Mbps in a worse case scenario.
My theory is that Sprint is oversold in the NYC area. Too many MVNO's, no money for expansion nor the incentive. That's my theory, not saying it's fact as to not ignite a flame war. Just a theory.
