AT&T cannot raise prices in the present environment and they know it.
My Publix/Albertson's reference was strictly a joke. It's like Wal-Mart's old strategy of driving competition out of a market with insane prices and then jacking them up when the competition folds. AT&T wants to drop that step of the equation, charge a lot to begin with and charge even more when there is less competition in the market.
