RIM is legendary for providing long term support for its products....I for one wouldn't worry about it......I was still getting updates to my old Curve as late as 2010....even though it ran OS 4.5, which was released in 2007....RIM will continue to provide support at least as long as the 2 year contracts and probably longer.

I have had BB7 for more than 6 months and I am assuming by the time BB10 comes out it will be about a year which is a decent amount of time.
BB7 won't go away overnight anyway. Since BB10 needs new phones to run on it, I would say there could be a transition period of up to a year as new models come out.

Sad you can't put the new OS on existing phones, but I knew that wasn't possible 6 months ago.

"Sad you can't put the new OS on existing phones, but I knew that wasn't possible 6 months ago."

Indeed, they made it clear when the OS 7 devices were released that they would not be able to be upgraded to Blackberry 10....that is the only reason I haven't upgraded yet....

It's not like they are misleading anyone, they said flat out from day one that they won't be able to be upgraded to Blackberry 10.

I was well overdue for an upgrade and I knew BB10 was coming in 2012. Frustrating making that decision. Wait or dive in now 🤣

Hardware limitations are the most likely reason current Blackberry phones will not be updated. But, as long as RIM continues to support current phones, ot shouldn't be an issue for those who don't want to upgrade just yet.

Why does this matter? I am a long term Blackberry Customer (Consumer) but if they are going to Business Customers only, why does it matter?

Does this mean that when I am ready to upgrade in 15 more months or so that Blackberry's will not be an option?

I guess I am all confused on this.

The Folks at Crackberry were thinking that it wasn't possible to totally concentrate on business customers and abandon the consumer market. Back before the iPhone was introduced I remember windows mobil, Palm, and RIM smartphones being available through business and consumer channels with carriers.

How do you de-consumerize a smartphone anyway? Do you pull the cameras out of them, strip them of ...
