LEGALLY ROB YOU!
what about all the death cause by gun? are we going to ban guns?
what about all the death cause by DUI? ban alcohol?
what about all the death cause by cigarette? ban smoking?

WHAT ABOUT THE DISTRACTION OF THE ROAD? (TOO FOCUS ON THE ROAD AND DIDNT PAY ATTENTION TO THE OTHER PERSON TALKING ON OTHER END OF THE PHONE??)

No one is talking about banning mobile devices. Read the article, reflect, then post.

Driving distracted is a collision waiting to happen. Shooting a gun from a moving vehicle is already illegal in my jurisdiction as is driving while impaired. No doubt smoking while driving will be in the crosshairs in the next decade.

Already illegal with kids in the car here in the weirdest state in the US...California 🤣

Just because you own a gun doesn't mean you will kill someone with it.
Just because you drink doesn't mean you will drive
And just because you own a cell phone doesn't mean you have to use it while driving.

Just like shooting someone and drinking and driving are illegal, so should using a cell phone while driving. You are oblivious to anything but your text messages and conversation. Nothing is that important that it can't wait. And if it is, then just freaking pull over for 2 minutes and take care of it. It's not rocket science. No life is worth any phone use...especially when it's someone else's that you take

While it's a bad habit, legislating on this subject is ridiculous as it is all subjective.

Recent studies have revealed that adult human brains are far less capable of multitasking than young adults and teens (I don't have the exact study, but it's was discussed in my Human Growth and Development class instructed by a practicing child psychologist), so theoretically we should ban any distractions for adults.

Studies also reveal that talking on the phone is just as distracting as talking to a passenger, or listening to talk radio as they engage the same parts of your brain and require the same amount of attention for comprehension. (once again, can't cite the study, but it was from an NPR broadcast)

In short, if we're going to consi...

Defintely! Let's assess all distractions! Not just the ones that we can account for specifically. How many accidents happen all the time for reason no one admitted too? Admittedly, 3000 deaths is certainly a horrible thing but in relation to all the accidents in that period overall what is the percentage of accidents caused by cell phone use compared to the many other causes? Again, this is only under attack because it can accurately be tracked. If your on a headset there is literally no difference between that and holding a conversation with a passenger. I guess once they get the little black boxes in vehicles things will only get worse!!

NHTSA....the same people in the 80's that told us that a 3rd center mounted brake light mandate in cars saved more than 50,000 collisions the very next year. 🤣

Statistics can always be manipulated to prove points...you are right.

Nothing you said changes the fact that any mandate or law that bans you from using your cell phone is unconstitutional. Period. No argument. No humanitarian BS. Nothing you can say will ever make your ban legal. There are already laws that cover driving while using a cell phone. It's called RECKLESS DRIVING!!!!! But get this... You and your socialist buddies who want to pass these kinds of laws are trying to hold people responsible for "pre-crimes" that have not been committed. Seeing as you like this idea, you should be arrested for thinking bout taking away my rights. I think we should have the TSA come strip search you and your entire family and see if they can find some cell phones that you MIGHT use in a vehicle. Then they can detain yo...

I'm 100% certain that the use of cell phones for texting while driving is one of the most dangerous things one can do. However, this should also mean that the use of any communication device, i.e 2 way radios, citizens band radios, etc. pose the same threat! The same group(police) who will be charged with the responsibility to oversee and act on any violations of this, also are guilty of using electronic devices while driving and so are emergency and first responders, etc. The key is not to ban the use but figure out how to control the use. Auto mfg. have made significant gains in technology that allow safe use of communication tools while driving! Communications while driving, if done responsibly and safely is no different than having conve...

With all do respect netboy. Arent you being a little irrational. Think about it. How many times have you seen an irresponsible driver text and drive swerve all over the road or even someone on a call driving with one hand and then an unexpected mishap occurs and she is not able to properly manuver the car to avoid the accident

When I grew up and I'm 55, they used to tell in school that the Communists in the Soviet Union would have check points in and out of areas and cities, to make sure they can keep tabs on people. 25 to 30 years later, the US is doing the same, wither they're sobriety or for homeland security. I'm sure people think they can find some justification for these and other forms of government intrusion. And please, this is not a Democrat or Republican thing, they both do it and for the most part support it. Show a photo of some unfortunate child who dies on some kind of tragedy and the politicians fold like a cheap deck of cards. OK people may think this is a fine idea, but we are slowly eroding our civil rights. And I would like to see the pro...

Well if they were any resemblance to "Reichsfuhrer" as you so eloquently put it, there would be two stormtroopers ready to gun you down once found distracted by the phone.
Then again, hopefully they do not get to that stage.

as an extra step, i think we should just ban cars altogether ..

3,000 deaths attributed to cell phone use is nothing compared to the millions of deaths the depletion of the ozone will cause.

if the Government were truly interested in protecting us, they would take care of the REAL problem.
