RIM is having money problems.
So, Hiring employees = more loss.
Definately the right way to go.
I think anyone who has ever owned a Blackberry can agree that there are two major problems with the OS:
1. It crashes way too often, requiring a battery pull to get it running again
2. You have to reboot the phone after every update of an app, and after many installs of an app
I got my Playbook on November 25 of last year, I has run continuously since then, I have never turned it off, it has never crashed, and the only time I have needed to reboot it is install an OS update. But I have no idea how long it takes to re-boot the Playbook because I've never needed to re-boot it! If I have to reboot it some day I'll tell you how long it takes!
If they are looking at acquisition I would totally flip if RIM was bought by Microsoft, a Windows Phone with Blackberry Services would give me the biggest geekgasm in recorded history.
