So was WiMax a success then?

6 LTE markets by 2014? Should Sprint have just stuck with EVDO and tried to get LTE sooner?

I wouldn't call WiMax a failure as much as I would call it a gamble that didn't pay out. I understand that Sprint was trying to be first with 4G and was sitting on use or lose spectrum, so they used it. As it stands now, Sprint will still have to support WiMax for the next 2-3 years and potentially have to perform another buyout or LTE migration just like they are doing with IDEN now. Some gambles pay off, some don't.

Wi-Max wasn't a gamble. It was making the best of a lousy situation. Nextel's IDEN was sitting on Spectrum which the Feds seized for Public Safety. Nextel was given horrible 2.5 spectrum AND forced to use it or lose it. Now as to whether Sprint should have touched Nextel in the first place? Absolutely not! That was the idiot move. Deploying Wi-Max after the merger of equals or whatever was a no brainer as in you already made a foolish decision at least enjoy the one benefit. It would be like marrying a stripper and suddenly deciding not to have sex with her because you realized she wasn't a virgin.

I can say yes it was a success. It managed to get a lot of new subscribers which was badly needed at that time. and it made Sprint the "first", giving us something to be proud of. And as you can see, customer satisfaction improved for 14 consecutive quarters [although one can claim that it's not the only reason of course]. It may look like a bad decision now, but it was something that was made with the best intentions in mind.

You know I was going to rip Sprint a new one and say that Sprint failed in this and that, but I have to admit Massively that you absolutely have a valid point. I agree. Bravo.

How is it an "idiot move"? They ended up being able to have a large chunk of good spectrum to use for LTE (800). They will even have enough 1900 to use LTE on it... The merger wasn't smooth, but the endgame was worth it. A ton of new customers and spectrum better suited to the tech they need to deploy.

Wait...what? There is someone defending Sprint's merger with Nextel?

🤣

Okay. Thanks for that. In any event, we clearly live on two different planets so I will defer to you and say that of course you are right and I am wrong. There is NO way I am going to debate with you.

Better?

I like the part where you totally ignore the endgame and focus only on the initial struggles. By your definition, Verizon Wireless and ATT are complete failures. Thank you for your message from whatever planet it is that you are from.
