Re: GPS Questions

I called Helio's customer service before I bought my Drift and asked them similar questions. Because I wasn't a customer yet, they wouldn't transfer me to tech support to answer my nerdier questions.

My first question was whether you could use the Drift as a Bluetooth modem and the guy pretty much said absolutely not, don't even think about it. Because all of their plans feature unlimited data, they obviously don't want to open it up to being used that often.

I asked them about other apps/hardware being able to access the GPS and they said "not right now". And yes, I called back two more times just to get another person and got the same answers.

I've explored every crevice of the software and, without a hack, there's no way to get to the GPS functionality outside of the applications that use them, like Google Maps. In fact, if you didn't know the Drift had it, you wouldn't guess it by browsing through the menus.

Accuracy was my big concern too since I live in the city. On a city block, it will occasionally be 50 to 100 feet off. Sometimes even more but it will usually correct itself if you tell it to recalculate your location.
