Apple, RIM and several others just got through outbidding Google for what was left of Nortels patents just a short while ago. They are still actively buying patents and companies like everyone else is.
Unlike Palm, RIM is such a cash rich company they could survive for much longer than you suggest. They are still gaining subscribers and as someone else pointed out earlier...shipped more than 50 million units last year.
Yes, IOS and Android have the market in the US and a few other countries, yes they have lost their once dominant market share here, but not elsewhere.
RIM is such a symbol of national pride in Canada, I wouldn't be surprised to see them get a government bailout if they needed it later 🤣
