No impact, probably. They're selling off excess spectrum, so I'm guessing that Cingular thinks they have enough already.
oh please...it has nothing to do with cingular having too much already....The FCC told them to get rid of certain markets to avoid a monopoly. So, I don't buy that arguement that Cingular has too much...they do have more cell sites than Verizon.

In some places, the FCC had determined that the combined company would have more spectrum than they need, so they are requiring Cingular to sell off the excess. They don't want Cingular to hoard 110 MHz of spectrum in a place where they will only ever use 70-80 MHz max - that would be unfair to the competition, and a complete waste a scarce resource.
In other cases, the DoJ has raised an antitrust concern. They don't want the merger to create a monopoly (or near-monopoly) in a place where there wasn't one before. So if AT&T and Cingular were the only two choices in Town X, the DoJ is blocking Cingular from absorbing their only competition in that town. Cingular instead must...
