Hopefully, they can release a product good enough to stabilize their place in the mobile world. I've had a blackberry and enjoyed it for the most part. The hardware lacked what it needed to compete and the OS was a bit inefficient. Any OS that drains a good portion of battery power to boot up and takes more than 30sec to do so, is not efficient by any means.
WP7 is a great OS and is growing slowly but steadily, right now and with the introduction of Windows 8, WP8 and newer hardware, they will continue to grow. By the time the newer desktop and mobile OS are released, their market place app count should be very close to 100,000, if not more. I feel Apple might be the next company to sit on their laurels too long too--with the plethora of handset options that Android & now Windows offers, Apple might want to add some options of their own.
As for RIM, Captain Hindsight thinks that they & Palm should've merged a couple years ago giving us a webOS on BB handsets.

Apple is making record setting profits so they can make a mistake or two. I think what RIM needs immediately to compete is a 4G LTE device fro AT&T and Verizon. I had a Bold 9810 for AT&T and loved it. What I didnt like was having to tether it with the usb cable to use it for internet... Thats oldschool! All of the Android & Apple devices you can just turn on the hotspot and wirelessly connect to the internet on a laptop. RIM is not losing money, they are still profitable, in fact profitable enough that they are still buying other companies...and in 2011 they sold 50 MILLION Blackberries, which hardly sounds like a company on the brink of death....
