No big deal. You can do this with Moto phones already and it does not incur a recurring charge. VZW just does not get it!
...
for real!!! you can already do this on almost any phone and its FREE!! Nice work VZN, damn, everyday I am getting closer and closer to switching to Cingular.
...
Well, two points. First, I don't know that many phones, especially those by VZW, that allow ringback when someone calls in, and I have read quite a few user manuals. Second, is anyone really surprised by this? I'm sure other carriers will do the exact same thing - it's just one more source of revenue to exploit from people that don't have anything better to do with their money. Don't be surprised for Cingular and everyone else to follow suit.
...
COME ON OVER! We are happy to help you switch and stay as long as you want! Verizon...largest network?? ha....not anymore!
...
Cingular offers this???? is it in CA only as well?
...
No one else offers this, people are still confused. It is not a ringtone or ringtone IDs. It is the noise that one hears when someone calls u. So instead of hearing a ring, you hear a song and whatever ringtone u have set still plays on your phone that they are calling. Call me at 510-292-6240 if u still don't understand
...
This is more for the caller than the one being called. When you call a VZW subscriber who has this feature, you hear a song instead of the ringing. Its through the provider, not the phone so Moto can't do it. Its still a pretty silly idea though, paying for something that you rarely hear... unless you like to call yourself... 🙄

😕 Erm... no. You can't do this with a phone. It happens on the network side. Phones can't generate or determine ringback tones.
When
your phone rings, you hear a
ringtone, and the person calling you hears a
ringback tone.
...
So can you choose both?
...
Sure. They are totally separate.
Ringtones happen on your phone, and your phone is where you configure them.
Ringback tones happen on the network, so generally you have to configure them from a special web site.
...
yeah call my phone at 510-292-6240 if u want to hear
...
Albany, CA landline? 😕
...
You guys on this site are so ridiculous. VZW constantly gets ridiculed for not initiating new products and services. But when they do something first, like the ringback option, everyone ridicules them for it. I guarantee it will make a lot of money for VZW and every carrier that follows thier lead. Most people love this kind of stuff. Get it now makes VZW huge amounts of money, thousands and thousands of down loads happen every quarter.
...
I just don't get it.
Whats the point of the person calling you being able to hear something other than just the standard ringing?
Also, is it something you can pick for the caller to hear, or does the caller pick it for when they call you?
Because, if you can pick it for a certain caller, the possibilities are endless to the point across to a certain person. 😁 😲 😈
...
If you really think about why do you need choices for your own ringer. It is to be different, to stand out. People want to be able to express themselves in as many ways as possible.
I am not sure if you can personalize the ring back for specific callers, I am going to guess no, but maybe you can. I think it would be great if you could personalize it tot he caller, imagine the options. Makes me laugh a little bit.

Yes, you can! 🙂
You can choose what people hear when they call you, and you can absolutely customize it for different people who call you. For the person you really wish would you leave you alone, you can make it so that person (and that person only) hears "F--- Off" by Kid Rock (or the Insane Clown Posse version, or my favorite, the Shaggy 2 Dope version) - every time they call you... 😈

It's kind of a cute idea, but I don't see paying extra every month for it... but then again, I can usually find a better use for money than fripperies so I'm not the best judge of these things!
...
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! 🤣 😈 🤣 😈
I love it! Now, I'm definitely for it! 😈
Oh the possibilities! 😲
...
yeah u can also set times for different ringers, so during the work day u have a oldie playing, then after the day is over u can play your rap songs
...
Why are they saying "the first" I've been downloading real music to my moto for almost a year with Cingular. What's so special about Verizon doing it?
...
For the last time, this is about ringback tones, not ringtones. Totally different... opposites, actually.
When someone calls you, a ringtone is what you hear; a ringback tone is what they hear.
Ringback tones are not something you download to your phone or choose on your phone. Your phone is not involved at all. It happens on the network and you configure it via a web site.
...
sorry, I actually read your post AFTER I posted. Sorry for the ignorance. By the way, I called the guy on here that put his number down. The ringback tones are interesting, but not something I would pay for.
...
Wonder how many calls he has received so far. 🙄
...
????? 😁 there's no telling. I would never put my cell # on here! LOL
...
yeah i have gotten a good amount of restricted calls, but i am happy to spread the knowledge

Another minor quibble I have with Verizon's data services.
...
You cannot do that with Moto phones. At least none that I ahve seen. If it was already available they would not be able to release a press release that says it is the first time offered. They would get sued!!!!!
...
A minor quibble I have with some on this board is that people do not realize that that VZW, Cingular and every other carrier is out there to make money, if they do not make money they do not exist and many, many people loose their jobs. If people are willing to pay for features/services why would anyone in there right mind give them away for free? GIN is hugely profitable for VZW why would anyone allow a customer to download a ring tone for free after seeing how much money is made with VZW's Get It Now. It is just not good business sense.
In a capitalist society the goal is to make as much money as you can. Sometimes you do have to give things away (VZW's New Every Two Program) or eat certain expenses (VZW doing away with portability ...
