Leave Cingular Blue??

I was looking at the connect plans and phones today,
for me I see no incentive to drop my current plan that
was with AT&T.

RIght now I have 400 min and 200 bonus min for life if I don't
change my plan, thats 600 a month for 39.99.

With this comes free incoming messages, #121 service included and unlimited mobile to mobile, the Cingular "regional" plans don't offer M2M.

BTW, I have a regional plan at the moment, I never leave
Massachusetts, if I did my reletives would hide and I couldn't find them anyway.

Even though Cingular can't come close to what I have
I admit, there is a temptation to jump over, but I'd be losing too much and not gaining a thing.

I'd have to have my service cut off until my phone came in the mail, pa...

First of all, you do not have to jump if you don't want to, but be aware that in the future when you want or need to upgrade your phone you will have no choice. A Cingular plan and Cingular phone must go together, so there will be no way to upgrade your phone and stay on the same plan. Second, you don't necessarily have to upgrade online, and even if you did, I'm not sure if your old phone would stop working as soon as your order was processed or not. Finally, the upgrade fee is only $18. The $36 is only for new activations.

Maybe, but they don't tell you until your checking out if thats
the case.

I just went to my account, signed in and clicked on upgrade phone.
$36.00 was going to be the activation fee it was written.

Also, it did say I would have to close the account and open
another with a new account number, nowhere did it suggest I could continue using the old phone until my new one arrived, it suggested quite the opposite.

thats why you should go into a store to do your business and not do it over the phone they never post things like 18.00 dollars for upgrade online. and in the store theres no need to wait to use your new phone. i think that is what he was trying to tell you.

Over all I think it's best to stay clear of sales people.

I prefer getting the information I need and going around them 😛

Well, you're talking to a sales person right now. I'm sorry you have such a bad attitude about us, but most of us actually want to provide good service and make sure your needs are met. Buying a cell phone online is asking for trouble, in my opinion. Your best bet is to inform yourself as much as possible and THEN go and talk to a sales person. If they seem shady or ill-informed, go somewhere else, but if you have problems after the transaction is complete, you will be happy that you have a person to deal with face-to-face.

Ok im from AT&T customer care and let me tell you that if you did move to Cingular your current phone would stay active until you activate your new phone. It is the same process we used before when migrating TDMA customers to GSM, we actually close your old account the same time we activate the new account which takes place when you call in unless you request it to be auto activated.

Or, the guy could just buy any number of unlocked phones and slip his current SIM card into them.

Unfortunately the "New Cingular" plans require a new phone to be purchased upon activation. In fact the new Cingular devices require a 64k sim card rather than the previous 32k chips. This allows the device to work on both networks (former AT&T and Cingular) seemlessly.

yup, thats why rollover is a gimmick, but a marketing gold mine. att gives me more bonus minutes at the same price point, and my nights start at 7 automatically. cingular charges you 7 bucks. however i just got the pricing updates at work, and the data prices are cheaper for the unlimited blackberry package. other than that, theres no advantage in switching to cingular yet.

im a 3rd party sales rep. i sell everyone but verizon. my question to cingular reps here is this. do the att migrations qualify for the new customer rebates on the p...

The answer to that is no, I just found out the hardway, I listen to the rep at the store and when I went back today to switch they informed me no nothing applies.

I am up the river with no paddle if I want the Razr V3 599 for existing customers.
