My analogy does not fail. I look at long term effects. Your own statement provides the concern that I am trying to convey. We are only two carriers away from being tossed a doupoly. In many cases of economics, a duopoly is more dangerous than a monopoly. VZW is trying to quell competition by smothering the regional carriers. It doesn't take a scientist to equate the sum. Regional carriers simply do not have the financial or network resources to expand on extra native coverage. They are willing to pay forward cash to the larger in return of having access to nationwide services. It is far cheaper for them. The larger benefit by receiving financial concessions for allowing them to use their network.
The problem is that VZW doesn't want the money. They want more control. The more control they have without regulations, the more we as consumers lose our choices and balance of power. Society has become dependant on wireless service. Almost as dependant as energy utilites. Do you want our telecommunications industry to be breached by the thought of inconsistancies?
We have a hurricane in Florida, so all our rates go up to cover expenses. That is very much a reality without a government agency protecting "Public Property".
So yes, not realizing this potential, is shortsighted.
I don't shoot from the hip and I don't play games. It is time that individuals in these forums quit using extreme vocabulary to practice debate 101, and start focusing on what is happening very quickly in this industry. Before anyone knows it, without rules and regulations, VZW and AT&T will be the sole proprietors of service acting as a cartel in doing as they please leaving us with little to no choices. We need the FCC regardless of how much people dislike them. It is reality. It is, what it is.
