And, it was Apple's plan all along. Sue everyone, get people to settle and pay licencing fees.
I don't think it was, Steve Jobs said that his goal was not to get a licensing deal, but to completely obliterate Android and force it off the market forever. And he said he was willing to spend all of Apple $100 billion cash reserves on lawsuits against Android if that was what it took.
Their goal wasn't a standard patent licensing deal, and not to settle for damages but the goal was nothing less than the death of Android.
If Apple is now talking about reaching a settlement then this a sign that they now know that they cannot achieve their original objective.
If I were Google and Motorola I would say 'no deal' and go for the throat with more lawsuits.
