AT&T Sunsetting 2G Services on 1900MHz

Seriously!!! After this and the previous announcement of lowering data cap, the extremely high prices, the poor customer service.... how can anyone remain an at&t customer. Can anyone answer this for me?

I know, this is some outrageously outrageous outrage! Like when Nintendo decided they weren't going to sell the NES anymore and instead decided to try to force me to buy a Super Nintendo! 😲 They should never have done that, rather they should have kept selling the NES unaltered or upgraded forever!
Look, let's get serious here, the Edge network is aging and dying, and as people move to 3G and then 4G it will be used less and less until it dries up and becomes a dessicated corpse.
Why would anyone WANT to buy a 2G phone these days anyway?

This will mostly effect customers who are on a very minimum plan and use their old phone, that's in perfect condition, for emergency purposes only.

Which is no doubt a very small number, and probably consist primarily of prepaid customers.
I have no idea what the long term plans for the prepaid network might be....but postpaid customers who don't use their phone much will be able to upgrade to 3G or 4G if they want to....if they don't want to and decide to cancel, it probably wouldn't be that big of a financial hit...
Some people left at&t in 2003 when they made the transition to GSM...but it didn't really hurt the bottom line....

Actually, the only thing they are changing right now is frequencies...they are shutting down service on 1900MHz to free us space for growth. They are moving to 3G PHONES, but their rate plan stays the same. The service has nothing to do the rate plan and it's pricing structure. Nation 450 plan is still 39.99 whether you have Edge, 3G, HSPA+ or LTE...the additional data plan will not be required unless they chose a 3G smart phone...

Here's a thought.
If you aren't an ATT customer, don't become one if you don't like their service or offers.
If you are an ATT customer in the NY area with a 2g phone and you don't want to upgrade, don't do it. You are out of contract for sure. Find another 2g carrier if you can.
Now if everyone cancels from ATT, then won't we have that dreaded 'monoply' condition that everyone screamed about when they tried to acquire Tmob?
If ATT attempts to acquire another carrier... whoa... ...

There's only so much spectrum. The 3G/4G networks are nearing capacity. The 2G networks are inefficient and taking up valuable spectrum. Be refarming that spectrum for 3G and 4G, everyone is upgraded to a better network that's faster and more efficient, meaning faster data and fewer dropped calls. It's a good thing. More importantly, it's inevitable. Do you really prefer 2G over 3G?
