We try to approach each phone review from the point of view of the average user. Most users don't read the manual cover-to-cover.
With many phones, there is no need to read manual, because the phone has an intuitive, discoverable UI that can be learned easily just by using it.
Since we know that easy-to-use UIs are possible, and obviously a good thing, we consider that to be the standard by which all phones should be measured.
Therefore we review each phone the way any typical user would - by picking it up and simply using it.

The people who are going to buy this phone are most likely not the type to just pick it up and go. If people are going to spend their money on a device like this or want to use a device like this, they probably are not too ignorant that they can't pick up the manual and look at a list of quick keys/shortcuts.
