Its unfortunately not as simple as looking at the number of megapixels on cameras/smartphones and assuming a higher number is better. It may or may not be the case.
Canon reduced its megapixel count on a lot of its cameras a couple of years ago to concentrate more on image quality. The results were better cameras with fewer megapixels

I would take a 10 year old DSLR with 6mp over a brand new iPhone with 8mp if all that mattered was image quality.
