So, why China first?

And when is Moto going to bring it here? Are there any reasons they haven't introduced a single phone with this new OS? Obviously, their CDMA offering have to (potentially) be used with the VZW UI, but why can't this be out on newer phones? Why the delay?
China pushes linux heavily. It's very welcome and accepted. In the US, carriers are very reluctant to support yet another OS. The A780 was supposed to come out in the US and never did. Until a majority of Moto's platform is ready to go over to the...

Spartan/Bland?

The interface looks very bland to me, compared to a lot of other manufactures. It looks like those color pallets were designed in 2002. I would dare to say that even the new Verizon UI has more eye candy than this.

I understand function over form, but I don't understand how this user interface is significantly superior to any other offerings from Nokia or Samsung.
meh, it's still an improvement over the old motorola OS

Didn't A780/A1200 have Linux OS?

The feature set seems similar, and the OS looks "newer" or refreshed, but is the OS actually new?
Those had a Linux OS with a UIQ UI with touchscreen support. Their Linux OS for PDA phones actually began with the A760. Then expanded to the E680, E680i, A780, and now the A1200 and soon the E690. The OS for those is different though as it's meant...

This is technically based on that, but that was a more of PDA OS that required a touch screen.

This has similar Linux underpinnings, but the UI is designed for "normal" phones with two soft keys and no touch screen.
