Downloading new MIDlets..

😳
I don't know about you, guys. But i've just got this phone and i've tried to download a customised MIDlet and the phone doesn't install the application on itself.
I'm trying to get some explanations about why it doesn't work but after sell the stuff, the company doesn't help us anymore.
I'm very disappointed with this phone. I think i will destroy this phone and ask my insurances to give me another model.

No message alert lights

This is the first phone I have had that doesn't show a light when a message comes in. It only rings so there is no way of knowing that a message has been received if you are away from the phone.
I find this very strange in a phone that is advertised as a text messaging phone.
It also doesn't show any light when charging or when it has been charged. You have to actually open the phone to see if it has been charged or not.
I'm going to try to exchange this phone.

how about T9 vs. iTap?

I personally feel iTap is better than T9, even if they're fairly similar. I realize T9 has come a long way and improved, but iTap just makes more sense sometimes and is easier to teach new words to than T9.

Also I think I'm faster on iTap sometimes than on someone's Blackberry with a QWERTY keyboard, though I'm sure that's just because I use it every day and am more used to typing on a real keyboard using all 10 of my fingers instead of just my thumbs.

It would be interesting to compare them too, though this FasTap just seems like a silly idea. For how many keys it puts on the keypad you might as well have QWERTY or SureType (the 20-key layout on slimmer Blackberries like the 7130).
I agree about just having a qwerty keyboard. Why have so many buttons? Seems like a fad that will go away to me. 🙄

NO MORE For NOW

👀 The AX490 is on RED ALERT. Not to be sold by any alltel retail stores or partners until further notice. The phone has problems with power cycling and other unmentionables.

How does QWERTY compare?

How does your speed compare on a QWERTY keyboard device? It would be interesting to see if T9 is faster for you just because there are less keys to remember or if it's the ABC layout of Fastap that is confusing. Personally I'm as fast or faster with T9 than a QWERTY device on most phrases. Names, URLs and email addresses slow me down on any predictive system though.
this is the exact question I had. Fast tap to me isn't really that great. I never really thought it would be that much faster than T9. The real question is whether or not people are faster on qwerty v. T9. fast tap requires learning a whole new sy...

I think the test is invalid anyway. Comparing fasttap and t9 is unfair, because in t9 you're not typing each and every letter as in fastap. That wasn't hard to figure out!
...
I actually have about the same type speed for t9 and Qwerty, but I think Qwerty is faster because of punctuation. Periods and commas usually take longer on t9, so on a long text I prefer Qwerty. And this has come after years of using both t9 and Qwert...

Has anyone used their 490 with a bluetooth?

The main reason I purchased this phone was to use the bluetooth. I have tried 2 headsets, and each of them results in the person on the other end hearing an annoying echo of themselves. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, I was told that I may have had the volume up too high. I tried turning the volume down, this did cut down on the echo, but then I could barely hear the person.
I have sold a couple of these phones but I havent actually paired one up with a bluetooth headset yet. I have experienced the problem your'e experiencing though, and it may be caused by your volume control. If you have the phone and headset volume bot...

other languages

I'm sure this isn't a problem for most of you out there, but I frequently text in spanish and portuguese.now i currently have a phone with a keyboard, and even when typing in english i'm faster with the t9, it is near impossible to type in other languages.

Disappointing...

I had high hopes for this, too bad it won't be the "new paradigm" for keyboard layouts that Digit Wireless touts on their website.

Does anyone have this phone or the LG 6190 that can either confirm or dispute this?
I am in Canada, and have several friends with LG 6190's - they are on the Telus network and they absolutely LOVE their phones. I don't understand why the dork in this video couldn't figure it out, but then again, I've always hated T9 - so there's my b...

Help with Rinsgter+

Hi there, I can't seem to connect to Rinster+, it always comes up with an error message. Is this a recurring problem, or is it just me?

Conclusion is Unfair. Try input 'me" with T9. See how long it will take.

It always come up with "of". What I did was:

1.erase "of"
2.shift to "Abc" input
3.input "me"
4. shift back to "T9" (only if the message is really long)

See how long that will take.

Or there is any secret shortcut of T9 that I didn't know?
On my phone(Samsung T609) if I hit the "0" it will bring up the next word in the T9 dictionary, so if I want to type 'me' I type 'me' it comes up 'of' I then hit 0 and it becomes 'me'

That doesn't take very long.
why would you do it that way instead of:
1. hitting 53 (for me). get the readout "of"
2. hit the next word key (whatever that is on your phone, usually 0, *, or down on the d-pad) to get "me"

that's only 3 clicks. not bad.

Let's say you're in T9 mode and you want to type "Hello". You simply click number key where each letter is located once and as you're typing T9 will guess the word t...

what nokia is that in the video

just wondering what nokia he us using in the video comparison.
it seems to have a big and crisp screen.
It's the 6126, which is very similar to the 6131.

It's a QVGA display, so yes, it's very large and high-resolution.

Keyboard layout :(

😕 That keypad looks annoying- no QWERTY layout- or anything resembling any type of keyboard layout, just the letters A-Z alphabetized. I think typing on that could be slow and cumbersome and take too much time to learn.
In Canada, we have been exposed to the FASTAP keyboard for 2 years now.

The reaction has been thus:

If you are very use to T9, it is no faster than T9.

If you are phone noob, it is much easier and people type faster on the FASTAP keypad.

I'm hoping USCC does. It's on our testing list I think.
