The only sound they'll hear is crickets chirping...

Really? Licensing webOS? For who? Why? The 6 people worldwide who use it? Does HTC or Samsung want like 3 of those 6 annual sales? Good Luck HP!
This would've been a good idea for Palm when they first released webOS a couple of years ago before Android had all of the traction and momentum that they do now and before WP7 got off of the ground. As it stands, this consideration is too little, too...

Maybe a third party would put WebOS on a phone someone would actually want to use. The sad little girlyphones HP is offering sure aren't doing it any favors.
Who says that they necessarily want to use WebOS on smartphones? I think it's a fantastic OS, and would work well on a tablet, an e-reader or who knows what kind of mobile device. And WebOS is certainly vastly superior to Android.
