The Actual Issue At Hand....

This is a BOGUS patent...period....

The company in question asked for, and received, a patent on a process which has been an exercise in computer programming 101 for more than 40 years....

You need to know a little bit about computer science and computer programming to understand what I am about to say but...

The company patented the IDEA of using a linked list to perform hashing....

How common is this? I have a programming textbook from 1873 by Donald Knuth in which this is an exercise...

I myself did this does essentially this in BASIC at the end of 11 on an Apple IIe.....that was in 1986..

The patent was awarded in 1996....

Linux is open source

Was it a custom flavor of Linux that was patented?

Wait?

Since when does a company own the linux kernal. Wasn't that developed and owned by Linus?
To my understanding it isn't "the" Linux kernal but rather "a" linux kernal, which sounds to be the exact one that Google chose to use. This may have some effect on Android's future, but I don't think it will be anything major, or even something that ...

No, Google didn't get screwed by Linux, they were screwed by a patent system that allowed a company to patent an idea that no one should be able to patent in the first place....
