Mbps vs. mbps

I'd like to point out that the article states this phone is capable of speeds of 5.76 Mbps, which is accurate, but could be confusing. Mbps is megabytes per second, whereas mbps refers to megabits per second. This phone runs at 14.4 mbps or 14.4 megabits per second, which is equal to 5.76 megabytes per second. All of the speeds carriers advertise are in mbps (megabits per second), not Mbps.
So...I'm getting dizzy now.
I've always understood it as:

MBps = Megabytes per second
Mbps = Megbits per second.

Either way...
Your correction is incorrect. See analyst422's post regarding megabytes vs megabits.

Additionally, a byte is eight bits, not two bits. So, 14.4 megabits per second is 1.8 megabytes per second, not 5.76 megabytes per second.

Good, it should have, but it wasn't but it will be.

AT&T should have had this in place from day one, I own an Inspire and very happy with the phone, and it was intentionally crippled. Honestly it didn't bother so much that true HSPA+ wasn't turned on in my area yet, I get great hsdpa service, what did was the whole hsupa and mediocre uplink.
Remarkably they didn't tell any of the retail stores to inform the customers of this at the release. I made sure that the customers knew that it was a 4G capable device, since we don't have the pushed out backhaul in my area just yet, but I agree that...
