Megapixel Mixup

Okay, I swear I didn't screw up - here's what happened:

1. Audiovox issued a press release saying that the 8910 was a 1.3 megapixel camera phone. I have the actual paper copy I picked up in the press room at CES, which is quite clear about it.

2. I talked with several top Audiovox reps multiple times at CES, each time talking about the 8910 being a megapixel phone. Again, everyone was quite clear about it.

3. Audiovox on Tuesday informed me that they had made a mistake, and the 8910 was, in fact, not a megapixel camera phone. Then there was even more confusion... and finally, once I was satisfied that I had the real (new) info, i updated the article as you now see it.

But don't despair, there is still a megapixel phone in the wor...

More CDM-8910 info?

Is there any more information about the 8910 or
any pictures of it?
I looked on the Audiovox web site site, and
there is no mention of it in the Press Releases.
Also, nothing comes up when doing a Google
search.
Ah, I spoke too soon. He now has the picture
of the phone on here.
http://rcrnews.com/cgi-bin/news.pl?newsId=16462 » says that only 8920 and 8930 will be megapixel.

fyi: try a google news search (instead of standard web search) for better results. the phone was only announced at CES today...

New info 8910

Audiovox at the CES show also unveiled its phone plans for the coming year, announcing its intent to launch megapixel camera phones as well as its first GSM/GPRS phones. Audiovox said it would release the CDM-8920, a camera phone with a resolution of 1 megapixel, with Sprint PCS by April. The company said it would sell a megapixel-resolution camera phone with Verizon Wireless, the CDM-8930, sometime in the second quarter. In July, Audiovox said it would enter the GSM/GPRS market with its new GX-28 camera phone through T-Mobile USA Inc. The company added it is also in talks to sell phones through GPRS carriers AT&T Wireless Services Inc. and Cingular Wireless L.L.C. as well.
Then who is going to get the 8910?

Verizon and the Long Wait

It's like a non-ending fairy tale with Verizon. The usual 6-month wait after FCC approval, the testing, testing, and more testing (undoubtedly snakebitten by the official piece of crap Motorola T-720), and the wait with questions of "when?, when?". It will be out by end of summer or into fall, if Verizon does not change its way of rolling out new product.
Their testing obviously sux. Like you said the T720 and of course the more recent Audiovox 8900..

SOUNDS NICE

SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT TRI MODE PHONE! BUT IT DOES TAKE A LONG TIME FOR VERIZON TO FINISH TESTING THE PHONES!!

8910

Does anyone know if Verizon will be the carrier and when will this phone be available
Probably not, I don't think Verizon goes on CDMA phones. Could be wrong though.

Ahh..Verizon..my friend, my enemy

Well..all in all verizon is one of the better carriers in my zone (as far as coverage is concerned) BUT their release time does suck (not as bad as Cingular though 😉 ) I have an I700 and I am still waiting for the PPC 2003 update. That aside, I was about to get a second unit, the 8600, since the 8900 unit is crappy all around (especially that speakerphone...yeeesh) but now I may wait, depending when verizon decides to release this new unit.

Upgraded phone

This phone to me seem to be like a slight jump from the 8900..... same fron display if you notice.
If it is an upgraded 8900, do you think Verizon will be out with it soon?

Audiovox's Press Release...

Notice that the internal display on the 8910
is crap compared to the 9900!
