looking at buying N80 on Cingular

I have been reading reviews on various sites about this phone while I narrow down the selection. I've read a few that mention the phone is slow - I decided to come here where I can hear from the peanut gallery what issues you've had with the phone or things I should be aware of.

I appreciate any help and information.

I just got it on ebay.

I bought the N80 (not the IE) on ebay 2 months ago to use with Cingular. The screen is so sharp that you can read the tiniest font. One complaint I have is the battery life - you'll need to charge it every day. And yes, it is a little slow with some f...

Changing the n80's operating system??/

Helloooooo everyone! I live in Dubai. It's a temporary work situation. Some of my operating system is in arabic. Naturally,,i'd love to change it to all english. Is it possible to wipe out the arabic version and do a fresh install of english only???
thank you! Tim
yes, just do the software/firmware updater. It will tell you your software may or may not be up to date, but even if it is you can reload the firmware version you already have and select the english language and you're set

He decided to sell the phone CHEAP, and I jumped on it figuring SOMEDAY I could unlock it. Anybody knows how to work this, I will gladly pay the bill to get it done if someone can get the info for me. Thanks!!!!! πŸ™‚ 😁 😎 🀣 πŸ˜‰

Blue light on Nokia N80

Probably a stupid question but what does the flashing blue light on top left of the 'phone (under the N80 sign) indicate. Its not mentioned in the instructions and seems to flash at random. Have checked bluetooth is off, 3G connection available and not, etc but to avail.
The flashing blue light means that "sleep mode" is turned on. Twenty minutes after the screen saver has been activated, the display is switched off to conserve battery life. The blinking LED indicates that the phone is on.

N80

Hey.
I was wondering a few things.
1) When will this phone come out in the States (i've heard for Cingular, but I'm not sure because of the previous thread in here)
2) If anyone has a used one, can I get a good price?
3) What do you guys think of this phone. Is it worth the 500+ for a step up from the Samsung P207?

Thanks a lot,
Matt
EDIT

I just got off the phone with the Nokia Flagship store in Chicago (on Michigan Ave.)

The phone is coming into the US within the next week. No carrier will have it, however, you can buy it from only 2 places (the US version that is) with a ...

N80 3G?

Ok, can someone clear this up for me? Is the Nokia N80 a "3G" phone? I know Cingular is beefing the whole 3G thing like crazy with the SYNC and LG CU500's. Is the WCDMA 2100 band only for Europe? Is the WCDMA 1900 band the "USA" 3G? Please, can someone clear up this mess for me??? πŸ˜• πŸ˜• πŸ˜• Thanks!!!
Yes its a 3g phone. I might be wrong, but I believe WCDMA allows for packet data transfers at a slow, dial up type speed. Cingular's EDGE network is what allows for the 3g broadband speeds.
Ok, well mine is WCDMA 2100 only. I have found out that the N80ie is 1900 and 2100. SOOOO....next question is: Can you change the N80 to make it WCDMA 1900 capable, or is that a hardware thing?

VoIP and battery life

I'm considering buying this phone and had a few questions for anyone who owns one or just knows.

1. If connected to a WiFi network, what would stop you from using a third party VoIP website or provider? (If you didn't have the internet edition, I mean)

2. All tech specs of the phone say it has 3 hours of talk time battery life, but the C Net review says they got 5 hours out of it. How are all the user's batteries fairing?

N80 WLAN....

If you are hooked up to a wireless network in an airport, public place, etc.... does it "cost" you anything to use that network? In other words, do you still have to pay for Data Usage from your provider when you are using that WLAN? Thanks!!!
NO!

GPS? Wayfinder Service even promised by nokia? WT-"EPH"

"**** Due to deficiencies in the Nokia firmware for the N80 this device will not work with Wayfinder’s products until an updated firmware is released. I emailed Nokia and they said they have no clue and are looking into it... this phone is definitely for "BAMF's" (ive been listening to too much Dane Cook lately..) and it rocks the house, but whats with these minor drawback glitches..?? I would kill to have GPS on this phone, but ROUTE 66 sux, cause you need to buy maps at a time for $$ each time and put it on a bunch of data cards, so um, wayfinder is awesome in comparison if ...

N80ie?? what about us?

On the Nokia USA's website on the upcoming handsets tab, there shows a N80ie. Yes, this would be the internet edition of our phone, where there is no physical difference, just software.

My question to anyone out there who has some input at all is:

WILL US N80 USERS BE ABLE TO UPDATE OUR PHONE SOFTWARE TO BECOME THE N80 INTERNET EDITION, OR ARE WE SCREWED?? i know they already have done updates to the n80's firmware multiple times so i dont see why they wouldn't personally, but who am I to assume such a thing...

Post a reply of any kind if anyone knows something or hears of anything on the updates of this issue.

can you plug the memory card up to the computer and drag and drop songs into the ringtones folder on the phone? or can you just set mp3's as ringtones?
You can do either.

Help with Data Plans on Cingular for this phone - please

So I have the N80 coming to me first week of november.

I expect to use it as a fairly simple user - mostly voice, browsing and multiple pop 3 accounts for email.

So I was trying to figure out which data plan would work best for me - obviously unlimited would be the best way to go.

But even in unlimited I noticed Cingular seems to have a wide variety

There
1. Data Connect Unlimited for $45 a month
2. SmartPhone COnnect Unlimited for $20 a month

And then there is BB Connect, BB Data and Laptop Access!

I am confused!

Would just the SmartPhone connect help me browse and setup multiple Pop3 accounts with my own POP Server? (NOT hotmail, gmail or the like)

Thanks All!
I think all you need is the $19.99 unlimited access
Yeah, their website does a poor job of explaining the data plans. It will be $19.99 for unlimited data. This is the plan I have for my Nokia N80
