Linking SMS across teh Atlantic?

I'm not sure why this is considered news, I have been doing this via T-Mobile since early 2002.

Last year while traveling in Ireland and the UK, I kept in contact with my wife via SMS the entire trip, I wasn't even charged in the European fashion (per message) since my contract already has 1000 SMS messages a month (two blocks of 500 messages).

I often send SMS to others who use different providers (AT&T, SprintPCS, and Cingular, though never to Verizon), and they always have gone through....
Yeah, no big deal. I can SMS my friends in the UK with T-Mobile from the US and also text message them when I'm in the UK and roaming on Vodafone and BT Cellnet.

Also text back from the UK to T-Mobile US and Verizon Wireless customers.
