T-Mobile has already been doing that

but it really came in handy when they kicked in with smart-phones. for example. white-pages app for android requires simultaneous voice & data preferably on 3G to retrieve name and number directory data fast before you pick up or the caller disconnects. this can't be done currently on cdma systems, which is the main gripe of verizon and sprint subscribers, more so for verizon i would imagine since i heard you can talk and surf on cdma+wimax. 👀
Yeah, on a GSM network, as long as you are in 3G coverage, simultaneous voice and data works like a champ. Honestly, I haven't had much need for this, but it has come in handy when I needed to look something up for someone, and didn't want to have to...

to late

4g is coming up and allows Data + voice at sametime. Why bother investing in this? No phone currently supports it and new phones have to be made to support this new SVDO CDMA. Not worth it waiste of money when your moving past 3g anyway.
It will be many years before 4G completely saturates the market. In the mean time, it's good to invest and perfect the current infrastructure. Just because 4G is available, doesn't mean that consumers are going to jump on the bandwagon right away. Bes...

If it is too late then why is this pointy-headed *Bleep*er wasting our time talking about it? Do YOU know how they are going to accomplish Voice over LTE? I sure don't. If they are going to go with One Voice then bye-bye voice calling plans (which ...

For iPhone

Lmao. Just thought I post this sense no one else has. Although, it is a good thought. My buddy who works for HR for the east coast is having to hire enough people to "double the staff of 98% of the stores for a phone launch in January." He even sent me the email from corp. Hmm..
Ahhh, yet another VZW iPhone rumor...

At this point, I wish the release would actually happen, so that these damn forums aren't crowded with over-inflated egos boasting they have knowledge about it (not you specifically 😉 )

I think VZW611LA is on to something. I have a friend who also works for corporate and they confirm an Apple product is coming...just wouldn't say what type of product

Verizon Being Verizon

Seriously, does Verizon HAVE to be full of *Bleep* ALL the time? As if simultaneous Voice and Data were not already available to CDMA operators. We've seen the articles right here on Phonescoop. There is CDMA Rev B which Verizon chose to eschew. Okay fine...you want to do LTE instead. I get that. Even still there is the SV-DO upgrade which one would think they would work on if they truly plan to keep 1x up and running for ten more years as they claim. Bottom line...this whole thing is nonsense. If AT&T can do Voice and Data then *Bleep* it Verizon should make sure its customers can have the same even IF they do not truly need it. The arrogance of the guy is unbelievable.

Uh huh.

"I think there are fringe cases where something like that could be important. For a vast majority of customers, I don't think it's a terribly important use case."

How about letting US decide that, genius?
If it were not important would they really be exploring the possibility of spending one red cent on an upgrade? Of course it is important just because AT&T and Apple can run commercials about AT&T's network being capable of it and Verizon's not capab...

This Article Shouldn't Be Here Today.

While it is difficult to side with a carrier that seems to be a the target of inspirational jokes and ridicule. It is also easy to defend the same carrier, as they have had much to do with either shaping or at least trying to shape the wireless industry.

Sprint put up a courageous fight along with Qualcomm in 2004 to prove to the world that EV-DV was a better option over EV-DO to compliment CDMA in offering faster downloads, Video Conferencing and simultaneous Voice and Data transmissions and Etc. Verizon then announced that they would roll out EV-DO to compete against the older dominant GSM. Qualcomm decides to bury the EV-DV initiative soon after Sprint elected to not fall behind and offer EV-DO to stay viable.

Years later, Verizo...

hahaha love the attitude about it...

There hasn't been a day that has went by recently, that I've not used this ability. I like how he's downplaying their network weakness.

Bout time!

I'm glad Verizon is finally jumping on issues like this. Although I also feel it's too little too late. I mean, with LTE on the horizon a fix like this has become more minor. I'm not saying it would be a waste of time but they should have done this a long time ago. Even if they would fix the network to allow voice and data at the same time I'm not a customer that would impact alot since I do one or the other most of the time. Either way it's a point in the right direction.
this is interesting, because in the brochure for the "curve 3g" it says the device supports talking and surfing at the same time. I don't know if it was written generally so they wouldn't have to make different trifolds for each carrier. I can talk an...

and it is a good idea for them to implement it, i wonder if we will get other cdma rev"B" features? go read about it cdma rev "b" is the equivalent to hspa+ in data speeds?
now I dont know that Verizon is implementing the higher speed data service, this article just says that they are adding the simultaneous voice and data

Best Feature EVER!!

Three reasons i love Voice and Data at the same time...

1)When i am on my way to the bar I use google Maps for directions (if i dont know where I am going) of course my (already drunk) friends are lighting up my phone asking why I am not already there yet. I dont get lost and they can stay updated knowing where I am at. bluetooth suggested or speakerphone)

2) You know when your mother calls you and wants to talk about your entire life store? well, reading engadget (or phonescoop) makes this situation a bit more bearable. (bluetooth suggested or speakerphone)

3) texting/picture messaging while talking. Perfect example, I was designated driver last night and my colleague wanted to know how he got throw-up on his work shoes... so as i ...
