android email sucks.

Quite honestly, the email application on android blows. They just need to start over from the ground up and give it a complete overhaul. Granted, the integrated gmail seems to work fine, but non-integrated email set up is a joke. Exchange support is laughable (on the models it actually works at all on), and often times just trying to get an email account set up is a nightmare where as your more functional mobile OS will set up with ease.

This is just one of the many applications this applies to for the Android OS.
The article is about the Gmail application, so what is your point?

What about Google maps?

Wouldn't that be the first major application that no longer requires a firmware update? It's my understanding that this wasn't always the case (I could be wrong)

But I am really excited for this in either case. the more programs that are apps in the market instead of core part of the OS, the faster updates get pushed to the masses.
Google Maps got updated quite a bit recently.
