Yup,

I am a manager at one of the test sites in Grapevine, TX. This is a great thing because with our training and experience we are seeing not only an increase over when Target sold contract phones themselves, but and increase in the overall satisfaction in the electronics department as a whole.

For those who don't know how Radio Shack remains competitive it is services like their Kiosk devisions (Sprint mall kiosks, Sam's Club Kiosks, K-Mart Kiosks) where they are essentially renting out their employees to staff these other entities stores that is probably the next phase of the Radio Shack story, and definitely is the fastest growing segment of the company.

Did I understand your post right? Did you say Radio Shack is renting out their employees? Don't you mean renting out the space?

I would LOVE to know what you are smoking to think that Target will be opening 700 to 900 new locations over the next year.

If you meant that they will be adding 700 to 900 Radio Shack kiosks to their stores I could believe it, but your wording is ...

more underperforming locations to waste good support at.

The Shack needs to fix their own stores and SCK in Wal-mart before they move on to tarnish Tarjia's reputation.
SCK is not in Walmart, they are in Sams Clubs, Kmart and they are very profitable. Their sales in wireless are through the roof..That is why Target chose them..

Smart RadioShack

RadioShack's subsidiary, Retail Services, is the division of the company responsible for Sam's Clubs, Targets, and a few Kmart Kiosks. Their main source of revenue has and still is Sam's Club Kiosks (SCK). They began operations in Q4 of 2004 and have managed to build a steady business, building upon year over year numbers consitently since they opened shop.

However, as many employees of Retail Services know, the contract between Wal-Mart and RadioShack allows WM to purchase up to I believe 15% of the SCKs every year. Many people have expressed concern that because of that buying allowance, we would eventually go out of business. Well, RS is not dumb, I can assure you of that.

Putting kiosks in Target makes more sense than Sam's Club or Costco, especially in a business where employees rely almost entirely on commission. SC and Costco require customers to buy a membership, so the customer base is severely limited. I once h...
