I LOVE my Nexus and would really like for it to succeed, hopefully this will give it some more life.
Of course people prefer hands on experiences before buying something. I didn't have hands on with my Moto Droid prior to buying mine, and neither did the original poster with his Nexus, but those of us on Phone Scoop aren't avg consumers.

Competion Hard to Do in US

I think the concept was good to sell the phone directly to consumers and then you choose a carrier. However, with the US not having universally compatible phones with AT&T on one frequency, T-Mobile on another, and then you have this CDMA thing from Verizon/Sprint that it was hard to get competition in the mix. We I think we the consumers would like is to be able to use the cellular companies as "dump pipes" like is more the case with home broadband where you use whatever device you want. It will happen to the US, but not yet.

Another interesting possibility is if Google could offer phone service using cheaper data only and no contract plans, thou not all carriers offer these type of plans.

They should have just released a 5-band 3G GSM unlocked phone like the Nokia N8. It would be one model that would give purchasers the choice of any GSM network and the phone would be easily swappable between AT&T and T-Mobile.
