I must be the only one..

who thinks the bigger problem is Google Voice being forced on AT&T.

While I can appreciate the desire for people to get stuff cheaper, (especially in these times) from a business standpoint I think thats pretty crappy of the Feds to do. Why should I be forced by the govt to allow a 3rd party to effectively give away the services that I provide for free?

If you had a pie stand, and the govt told you that anyone who wanted a free pie had to get one, how would you feel?

-Back to the present topic-

Of course AT&T should be able to challenge this. If they're going to be forced to allow this service then Google shouldn't be able to pick and choose which calls they can offer for free. Its ridiculous to think that its right to be able t...

Retaliate much?

Hey, AT&T, retaliate much? Because this is retaliation, plain & simple. Google ratted you out about the rejection of Google Voice, showed that you & Apple in your cabal were abusing power by limiting consumer choice, not to mention lying about it to the FCC. And now, coincidentally, you point your finger at Google. This the playground equivalent of whining, "But he did it, too!"

You are pathetic, AT&T...

AJ
Exactly!!!!!
Great point! I hope the FCC fines them for frivolous complaint and flat out wasting their time with this clearly retaliatory complaint.

Who is your wireless carrier... Mine is Sprint, who pretty much lets its customers do what they want, when they want... Much like the former T-Mobile.

In the end, they have the right!

I have read everyone's response up to the time of this post and thus far, 95% of the posts are Anti-AT&T filing this complaint.

I'm my opinion (because really, thats all we can post about on this topic), AT&T has just as much right to point at Google as the FCC had (and google) had the right to point at AT&T.

AT&T (and Apple?) didn't want Google Voice. The FCC stepped in and said "Hey, you cant do that". Now AT&T is saying, ok, we allowed it but now, why is Google saying no to some calls?

Thats a very valid question. More so, "IF" some of those calls you cant use Google Voice to make, your able to make without it.

Anyway, my opinion on the matter is; AT&T has the right to do this and should excersise that right. This is America ...

You are correct. There is some valid points that you made and yes everyone has the right. However, I think that the whole issue in a nutshell is that most posters have seen the control that wireless carriers(such as AT&T) have tried to administer in t...

AT&T: Champion of the Little Guy

Where would I be without AT&T? They have taken the initiative and gone after big, bad Google. Why, of course, they only have my best interest at heart when they ask the FCC to investigate Google's nefarious practices. After all Google is forcing me to participate in their Beta testing of Google Voice, right? Sure, I went to the GV site and requested an invite (just as I did with Gmail years ago). When I finally received the invite and hurriedly signed up...they had me right where they wanted. Now I have a Google number and AT&T says that there are numbers which I am not allowed to call. Wow! I had no idea. Every number I have ever attempted to call has gone through without a hitch. Why those sneaky *bleepards*. Imagine that! Here...

AT&T is The Matrix

Neo speaking directly to The Matrix in the last lines of that eponymous film:

"I know that you're afraid...you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone, and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world without you. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you."

AT&T is effectively The Matrix. And AT&T is very afraid of a world in which it is nothing more than a "dumb pipe." But what a much better world for teleco...

Wow... I wish the people could actually tell at&t and Corporate America to Shut the Mother Mother up and shove it up the muffler pipe.
Actually... Google is _really_ the matrix. They are all seeing, all knowing, data collecting agency. Google essentially 'gives' away a lot of product, as long as you give them a lot of information for data mining (Google owns you, knows where you ar...

Free Vs. Paid Calls

GoogleVoice is a FREE VoIP type service. Since no one is paying for those calls, and its still technically in BETA, and premium charges to numbers AT&T is whining about COULD be charged at a later date, whats the problem?

AT&T surely isnt offering any free solutions or products like Google.

Lets also not forget that AT&T also blocks calls to 900, 976, 700, and other numbers as well...

So... whats the issue here?
Sad you can’t pick on VZW so you try to pick a fight with a little VOIP provider.
I guess if I just got MMS up and running on one of the best selling devices in the country I’d try to shift the spot light too.
