Bluetooth or speakerphone doesn't count for anything?

Not just holding a cellphone, but there are numerous, numerous other potential distractions, kids misbehaving, maybe spilling a drink, or maybe someone lives in Las Vegas and is just a dumbf**k driver. It just seems as though some people think cell phones are the ?ONLY? potential distraction that exists!!!
BT counts for a lot. All cars if they are going to throw fits about this and make it law should have a $30 bluetooth car kit from the factory, just like seatbelts are law.

The list of distractions is crazy long. That press conference is going to ta...

I do not believe it is that simple.

There have been numerous studies which seem to indicate...

I cant recall a recent moment when I disagreed with you Jayshmay, but this has to be one of them. Although I see and agree with your point, I also believe every little bit helps. It doesn't say you cant use Bluetooths, I believe they mean the actually...

Yeah, people eating and/or sipping coffee or other drinks, men shaving, women applying make-up, either gender grooming their hair etc. I know we are all in a rush in the morning to get somewhere, but come on. Can't you get up a few minutes earlier and...

Good...

...now I don't have to worry about a bazillion idiots inadvertently trying to kill me.
What about people who use an ear piece? and every one knows that people will still use their phone . I mean I still see poeple txting and driving. I mean drinking and driving is illigal and you still see it from time to timw. Yeah scary!

Professional Drivers

WOW THIS IS A REALLY TOUGH SUBJECT, I FEEL BANNING THE USE OF CELL PHONES SHOULD HAVE SOME OTHER RESTRICTIONS PUT IN SUCH AS UNLESS USED WITH A BLUETOOTH HEADSET. I AM A PROFESSIONAL DRIVER AND I KNOW AND SEE WHAT THE WORLD OF PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS GO THREW. FOR YRS SOME DRIVERS RELIED ON DRUGS TO KEEP THEM ALERT,NOW THEY RELY ON CONVERSATIONS AND OF COURSE OUR SAT RADIOS,BUT SOMETIMES MUSIC AND RADIO JUST DON,T CUT IT BUT TALKING ON YOUR PHONE USING A BLUETOOTH IS LIKE TALKING TO SOMEONE SITTING IN THE VEHICLE WITH YOU.SO WHATS NEXT BANNING PASSENGERS.REMEMBER FOLKS LOOK AROUND THERE ARE LOTS OF PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS ON THE ROAD AND SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE WHEEL THEY ARE BEING PUSHED TO MAKE SERVICE.CELL PHONES CAN BE A GREAT TOOL IF USED ...

What about data features...

Like navigation or Pandora? The last trip I took I fired up VZNav on my Blackberry, programmed my destination in, exited out and launched Pandora for my tunes. Would a ban prohibit those things?

You could say that navigators make safer drivers, and using my phone for that and music isn't any more dangerous than using standalone devices like GPS units, ipods, car stereos, satellite radios, etc.

Solution

Every car maker should put a device that jams any kind of cellphone frequency inside the car and just add a 911 or emergency call button right under the rear view mirror.
That's probably the most effective, yet worst solution possible. Just think for a second, No one in the car could make calls. That's bad enough by itself but just imagine being outside a store on your phone and someone drives by while your walking t...

I think the best solution is to put together some kind of test to see whether you are actually coordinated enough to do it. I can operate a phone and drive perfectly fine, but some people can't do it to save their life. I don't think I should be penal...

But yet everytime you see a cop they will be on their phone

This is the most annoying thing about this law, you never see a cop drive by that is not on their phone!!! If these groups are so adiment about banning cell phone use while driving because "it impares you" then they should be going after the cops too.

They say it affects your ability to drive, but last time I checked, cops aren't cyborgs from outer space!! They are human and can cause accidents too! And I'm sure it has happened numerous times!! Are they exempt from the driving while intoxicated law too?!

What's next... will it be illegal to adjust the heater/AC in your car? Will you get a ticket for reaching over and turning the volume up on the stereo? If you are coordinated enough to perform these tasks, then you can operate a phon...
