YES!

Woot! I knew Sprint wouldn't get rid of Nextel. If they do it right, it's a real money maker! Good for you Sprint! 😁

Interesting

"It decided that the iDEN network is a key asset"

I though thats why Sprint bought Nextel in the first place back a few years ago? Nice to know they have finally figured it out after 4 years? Ok, I know bad management is to blame and they are on track to doing better.

If you look back at this whole merger mess, is this where they screwed up?
Nextel was known for it's insane push-to-talk network, everyone knew their cell phones sucked (I had one too)
Sprint had a better cell phone network than Nextel

Should have kept the Nextel name (sorry but I believe the brand could have kept more customers) and incorporated Sprints CDMA technology into all their cell phones.

I would be interesting to see if they could pull this off after so...

I think the big screw-up was under-estimating the issues that would arise from trying to integrate the two networks.

In my opinion, the big failure was trying to put Sprint and Nextel on the same billing system. Their execution in regards to tha...

The big question is......

Why bother?
Sprint / Nextel is like two drunks trying to hold each other up.
Sprint has been doing fine. Nextel has been the portion of Sprint that's been bleeding customers...

In light of this article. . .

What exactly is the point in Qchat now that Sprint is investing more in iDEN???
For people who want media features on their phones as well as DC. Nextel's network as it stands will never be able to do what Sprint's network can because of how limited data transfers are.

Smoke and Mirrors

I thought Sprint was SELLING the IDEN network?

It is typical Sprint:

The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.
Not the case here.

Sprint said they would consider selling the iDEN network if they got the right offer.

In my opinion, nobody was willing to pay them anything near what they were asking.

Sprint. Don't screw this up.

The only way this will work is by full integration or complete segregation in opertations. No in between. They need to focus on Nextel for Businesses and contractors and Sprint for average consumers. This will eliminate any confusion. If they have total integration, it will be a formadible package. But no mixing and matching. It's one or the other or all in one. I am a fan of both technologies and don't want the confusion.
They made the biggest posible mistake when they tried to "integrate" the two companies from the outset. They should have left them totally separate, combining profit/loss at the bottom line of the parent corporation's quarterly & annual reports, i.e. ...

Well it is about time!

I have been a Nextel user for over 15 years. I hate Sprint's CDMA PCS network with a passion! It is nice to know I won't have to be forced to use a PCS network.

As for Qchat. Qchat is going to be used to DC between Nextel's SMR PTT and Sprints PTT.
