I say let Verizon keep all their markets.

They have the most nationwide coverage, why mess with that?!

Actually, without Alltel, they don't.

Verizon currently ranks last in terms of native coverage when compared to the f

MetroPCS is interested

MetroPCS needs all the free markets they can get at a low cost from verizon...
I am sure they are interested, Leap is probably interested also. They have been unable to get a reasonable roaming rate from the big 3 CDMA carriers, and Im sure they would love a way to stick it to them.
They are pushing for a new way to allow ro...

I wish they would not acquire Alltel in the first place

Alltel is nice. Cheap plans, UNMODIFIED phones.

Now...
Well, Alltel has been crippling their phones somewhat for about a year now. They've begun blocking file transfer capabilty so that's not a good sign. They have not standardized their UI yet, but hopefully Verizon will take over before that happens. I...

ATT or US Cellular will buy most of the divested spectrum

I see Att buying up the Arizona 850 spectrum since all they have is pcs spectrum there, and US Cellular has been making some moves finance wise to buy.
from what i've heard and read, at&t will be the single largest purchaser of the divested spectrum (alltel is the incumbent carrier in markets like NC/SC (and other southeast markets), so verizon wont need all the spectrum... at&t only has 1900 mhz spe...

Why can't T-Mobile ever buy 850 spectrum when its available? AWS 1700 is not all that.

So, is Albuquerque affected?

Because both Verizon and Alltel operate their own networks in the Albuquerque market, I am guessing that Albuquerque, New Mexico is one of the affected markets.

Also, does anyone know if the Verizon network is being divested, or is the Alltel network being divested? Verizon has a much larger user base in Albuquerque than Alltel, being the largest carrier here. I would guess that the Alltel network is being divested.

I also wonder, who will pick up the divested network or spectrum? I think that AT&T can use some additional spectrum here in Albuquerque to expand 3G coverage. AT&T has shown the most improvement here in Albuquerque in terms of service quality. AT&T should continue improving to overtake Verizon and T-Mobile as the lead...

if this is required as a condition of the merger, Verizon will be required to divest their network. The FCC doesn't accept promises, only action.

Now if Atlantis holdings decided to divest their portion of the network prior to the merger desicion ...

This Will Be a Good Thing For Other Carriers

Verizon will get rid of coverage they won't need, while being able to sell off areas to other comapnies that need it.

Everybody wins! 🙂
i agree, us cellular could use more markets in north and south carolina and nebraska as well as minnesota. its a win win for everyone.

Being from Nebraksa...

I am extremely happy about this.

Verizon's coverage here is wonderful.

Alltel is good in rural NE, but sucks in Omaha, which is the biggest city in NE.

That means (hopefully) that all those vzw cutomers will leave when they get transitioned to the Alltel network, and come to Sprint which is the 2nd best coverage in Omaha.

W00T!
come on now do you really believe that..why would they leave if verizon has wonderful coverage and alltel has good rural then when they merge it will be the best of both worlds. they arent going to trade their great service for alltels good rural it w...
