Warning...for anyone who buys this phone regarding HISTORY TXTS PHONE CALLS, EMAILS, ETC

the phone is good, but there is one MAJOR flaw..the phone keeps a permanent history of every thing done on the phone, like calls, txts, emails, and this action is not deleteable...i checked other forums, and called moto...i can't believe this...
permanent history? i used one to demo for a customer yesterday in my store. once i was done using it (made a few calls, sent a text or two) i did a complete wipe. nothing was left on the phone after that.

and i've sinced purchased the phone. i'v...

Can not download app's from outside the market place

there is no way of allowing you to install from unknown sources 😈
I'm getting this phone today.

Store is open yet.

Did they really take off Google search?
...
ATT is the ONLY phone provider that changes manufacturers spec on the phones they offer .. but they won't take responsibility of a third party misleads a customer

great phone

I don't get it. To each his/her own I guess. AT&T store says they don't like it in a review, but says they don't like the iPhone either. Seems like people want to like a phone they have dreamed up in their head. The backflip comes as close to the phone of my dreams as any other out there.
Maybe it's because I've given up on a device being totally perfect, because the Backflip does have it's flaws (occasional crashes, some apps only work in one screen orientation) but in my opinion, this is the best phone I've ever had.

I have four...

email options

Does anyone know if the backflip supports outlook email?
If you are referring to Exchange, yes it does -- it uses OWA (Outlook Web Access) much like the iPhone or other devices do.

Sorry if the reply is too late, just got mine, and have it working with my corporate e-mail.

May 11, 2010 - OS Update available

There is an update available for the Backflip OS.

Link to update notes:

http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support/US-EN/Mo ... »

The update is may not be available in all areas yet. To check if the update is available to your phone:

Menu->Settings->About phone->System updates
It seems that those who got the update already were the beneficiaries of a glitch in the system.

See this post at the Moto Owners forum:

If you have the update please post your feedback in that ...

My battery life improved greatly when I downloaded the update from .12 - .13

In the north texas area

I may have been available to just change the battery performance myself but the update did the trick.

android 2.1?

The info indicates the OS is android 1.5 or 1.6 but also that it is upgradeable to 2.1?

Is that available now and if so, what is the procedure to upgrade it?

Thanks,

Pat in NH
Current version is Android 1.5

An update to 2.1 is planned for sometime in the third quarter of this year.

Ring Volume

I am looking very serious at the BackFlip but want to know from those that have the phone about the ring volume. My problem I have with the phone I have now is that I can't hear it ring if it is in the other room. The i-Phone I can hear. So can anyone tell me if it rings how loud it is.

Also any comparisons good or bad with the iphone? I am also looking at it. The only thing I don't like is that you can't insure it.
The ring volume is quite loud if you have a good quality ring tone
Loud ringtone, expandable memory, flash on the 5 MP camera, physical keyboard makes long emails or texting easy, insurable, multitasking, MP3 download app for free music

I love mine.

Have to use MotoBlur?

I'm considering getting an unlockek version of this phone for my daughter. She does not have a data plan and I'm thinking if Motoblur is contantly updating I'm gonna have an issue with costs. Does anyone know if you can chose to not use the MotoBlur option?
If you are on AT&T and get a smartphone (not just the Backflip) you will have to sign up for a data plan.

MotoBlur is an integral part of the phone's OS. Some people have botched the MotoBlur sign-up by not being in a 3G area when they init...

I had the same question before I bought mine.. so I did a Google search.. There is a website that has a list of highlights.. (most popular etc...)

But it has a TON of aps.. I would say it is almost falling into the catagory of what killed the Atar...

Alarm Clock problem?

Anybody else having issues?

I'll set the alarm but it will play no sound.
The screen says it's going off but it doesn't.
The alarm volume is set as one of the preferences when you set up the alarm, it is separate from the ringer volume. Also if you set increasing it starts out very soft and doesn't increase very quickly.

I don;t knwo if alarms will sound if your phon...

Hmmm

This phone seems like a giant phail for AT&T If your going to make an android and hamper it so much just dont make it....its like handing someone a ferrari and telling them they can only go 30 mph in it...retarded, I've even heard that you cant root it...at all, I really hope that isnt true because if it is, its a giant piece compared to all the other androids out there.
You shouldn't leave a review like this unless you've tried the phone out.

Free at Walmart

The Motorola Backflip is available for FREE at Walmart with a 2-yr contract (new or renewal). At AT&T stores, it's $99 after $100 mail-in-rebate. It's a really nice phone. Full keyboard, backtrack function and camera work very well. Plenty of apps in the Android Market.
Make sure that if you are wanting a renewal you have at least 22 months completed on your contract. I tried to do an early upgrade because I am eligible through AT&T but Wal-mart stores can't do it until 22 months.

Paid Market Research Study in NYC with Backflip owners

If you own a Motorola Backflip and live in or around the NYC area, we're hosting paid market research interviews in early May.

Those who qualify and participate will be paid $125 for taking part in a 45-60 minute interview, in which you'd simply share your opinions regarding your phone.

If you're interested, or know of anyone else who owns the Backflip and may be interested, email me at jlodge@focuspointeglobal.comwith a phone # and best time of day to reach you.

* In order to qualify, owners must have their Backflip phone with them during the interview. Those who do not would not be able to participate in the interview, nor be paid

How to save battery life on Android phones!! Must have app.

Download APNdroid from the market.

Android: When you're asleep, at an event, or otherwise indisposed, you don't need your battery-draining data connection, but you might still want to take phone calls. Free Android app APNdroid can selectively turn off your data access while allowing calls.

The app's design is a clever one, as activating APNdroid from its app button simply activates the on/off switch for GPRS, EDGE, and 3G networks, allowing you to use the APNdroid icon as a kind of widget on your Android screens. You obviously won't be able to surf the web or sync Google services while your data services are off, or send MMS messages. You will, however, have basic phone functionality, and your battery will probably live a bit longer...

Great phone...some questions/issues

1. Got a text with a picture attachment..can't forward the text to anyone? nor can I detach the picture and and store it???

2. Exchange client doesn't pull down the global address book of the corporate email? just contact? yikes
Oh, also:

3. I've had a moto phone(s) for years...I love the multisloted address book for my contacts, and always copied my contacts using Moto Phone tools...however, now that I have like 400 multi slotted contacts..MPT doesn't recognize the backf...

I think theres an app called mms save. Or you can try long pressing on a picture to see what options become available.
You just have to hold or press with your finger, then a menu will pop up with "Open msg, Play slideshow, Save slideshow, Forward message, or Delete message"

I just tried it.

Hope that helps
I had to download "Bluetooth file transfer" from app store before my texted photo files started to work correctly.
