Step by step guide to get away from T-Mobile contract without termination fee! Say Hello to iphone

Starting on 8/29/08 the cost for SMS/MMS messages on T-Mobile's network will be increasing from $.10 to $.20. If you are wanting to get out of your T-Mobile contract without paying an ETF (Early Termination Fee) this is your chance! I just went through the process and I have documented it below.


Please note this is only valid for people who do not have a messaging plan. If you pay for a bundled messaging add-on you can not use the increase as a reason for breaking the contract since the increase does not affect you. This is also only valid for people not worried about losing your current phone number. If want to keep the phone number you will have to do some more hagling with the CR you talk to.

Not the same T-Mobile

It seems like T-Mobile is straying away from its niche market. With al la cart text prices being increased by T-mobile for the second time in year and half, it certainly indicates that they are going away from the low cost vendor identity. With T-mobile still lacking a 3G network and spotty coverage, what is the advantage to this carrier. Didn't Virgin Mobile just lower their text rates to a penny?

Who does this really effect? Most people who do text messaging already pay for the bundle packs. Only the few people who do a couple text a month to their kids.

Plus our 3g will be fully rolled out by fall so yeah we are getting better.

I tried too, I was told that since I am the unlimited message package. I would be charged ETF for each line I cancelled. Was told you can cancel if you pay by the message. On an other note is there anyway around a deposit for additional line? Anyone h...
