THis is Good

The sooner people start e-mailing the sooner SMS dies. 🙂 No more limits on characters. Verizon should offer their customers a verizon e-mail adress that gets pushed. This is how the networks in Japan work.
Is this Blackerry-Lite? A means to push the adoption of going from a regular handset to a smartphone?

Just another option

This is just another option for wireless email on your device.

Currently VZW offers Mobile email for non-pda devices for $5.00 per month. However, it does not do full sync of contacts and calendar. They also have wireless sync for non-PDA for $19.99 per month. Both require the Premium calling plan or VCast V-Pak in order to avoid the $1.99/MB data transfer costs.

What's wrong with a wireless company offering multiple options for email on your device?

Personally, I think it is a good thing.

Who cares who did what first, or how much it costs.

Give them a break for trying or even offering something new to their customers.
The company that makes remosync also offers "pull" e-mail for $2.99 a month. remosync is for Exchange so I think they are trying to offer "push" e-mail for companies so they don't have to buy all their employees smart devices.

I'm a Verizon customer, and I'm interested to see what people think of this service and how well it works.

Do any other service providers offer something like this? I'm not aware, but I haven't looked, either.

How much of a threat is this to Blackberry? It certainly is cheaper. I'd love to see Verizon provide a cheaper BB plan than $30 per month.
Verizon says this push email to consumer phones is a first for them.

But you need to have an Exchange server for it to work.
...
Sprint offers a free application to push email to your phone. They have for awhile now. I get my gmail and yahoo pushed, but I haven't bothered trying work or anything else done.

Nope, not the first, and not the last either.
a lot of people are mentioning free programs that'll already do this on some windows mobile phones are you still needing unlimited data plans for your phones for these??

The verizon app I'd imagine would need vcast or whatever the unlimited data f...
