Enough of AT&T...

Is anyone else had enough of AT&T's monopoly on the iPhone? It's great that the iPhone is now at a price point that the average joe can afford, but paying an additional $30 a month is just AT&T's way of sticking it to their loyal customers. I don't think that millions of their customers are going to to turn over to the iphone. If apple really wants to bust into the cellular phone market they need to create a CDMA version and have some REAL compition between carriers. If they continue their exclusivity with AT&T for another year or two, then I'm afraid we will be seeing a slow death of Apples beloved cash cow.
dude, there is not a single carrier (other than t-mobile) who offers a lower data rate. period.
...
If the phone did not require a data plan, most of the features on it would need to be crippled, and the price point would be A LOT higher (think $500). The reason they can have the phone for so low is because the cost is subsidized by the data plan. ...

modem

Hello,

Will someone please clarify if you can use the new or old iphone as a modem for your laptop? I have searched the forum and I am confused about the responses. Right now I use my AT&T 8925 as a modem. I hook the usb cable to the computer, go to internet sharing and I am able to get online. Thank you for your help.
when i was ordering my 3gs 2 days ago the guy selling it to me said that tethering will not be available in the US..only in other countries...however there are always ways around it....also i couild be wrong but thats what the AT&T worker said

Anyone notice the applications graph???

I didn't see windows mobile being compared. Way to skew the numbers Apple.
The windows mobile store is not yet up and running.

A perfect phone??

What do you think the iPhone still needs?

Obviously a better camera, flash and an SD card slot, removeable battery... are those necessary though?

Apple really seems to be stepping it up, honestly, is this not as close to a perfect phone as were going to get?

Still hoping for a new model today!
It needs a carrier here in the states..
we got the camera, no flash, HUGE memory, tons of other stuff too... what does it still need??
I'm sure they can come up with a way to put a physical keyboard on the thing. If not, the bluetooth keyboard that looks like a calculator is pretty hot.

Other things I would like to see:
TETHERING (3Gs will have it, but not in US)
FM Transmitter...

The Best Part is...

...new price point, very nice. $99 for the 8gb is going to put heavy pressure on mid-priced phones.

the rest was a mix of 'about time', 'interesting but ok', and 'that's apps but what about the phone'. hmmm, i guess i'll wait to see the in depth coverage before i pass judgement.

no AT&T listed (as mentioned in the tethering section)??? elaborate please.

but dang... that price is pretty sweet, but was hoping for more mind blowing feature set info.
