Good News

I have actually been waiting for this phone to be released. I was almost going to opt for the blackberry 8830 when I got wind of this. It is exactly what I am looking for. I currently have 2 phones, one GSM and the other CDMA. I travel enough that I like the GSM capabilities and yet it is important for me to maintain a local number so that my family can reach me on a local number. Yes it costs more, but the convenience of one number, for the amount of time I need it is well worth the roaming.

Anyone have any ideas or information when this phones is coming out. I am trying to decide if I should wait for this model, or just purchase the Z6tv phone.

YAWN........

WHy not quad band GSM on this phone? Unlock it while you are at it.

I just got back from Germany and used my unlocked GSM phone. I bought a prepaid T-mobile sim card. Incoming calls were free. Calls to 800 numbers were free so I could use my ATT calling card to call back to the US without using cell minutes.

It is MUCH cheaper to use an unlocked phone and get local sim cards in Europe.

Anybody with half a brain that travels extensively would tell ATT an VERIZON to take their worldwide capabilities and put them where the sun don't shine.
but people are lazy and want convenience

they will pay 10 times the price for something if it requires no effort

AT&T may sell locked GSM phones but you can unlock them and use them anywhere. It's worth it to unlock it and use the phone with prepaid local SIMs in other countries. Plus AT&T has some pretty awesome phones(although I'm aware of the phones they sell...

Verizon will unlock any GSM phone upon request.

PREACH IT!

honestly, unlocked is the ONLY way to go global. Only problem is, you just can't keep using your current number overseas.

Good to know

Although, I bet these won't sell well. Considering how expensive overseas roaming is, it's always more economical to get a local prepaid phone when you're over there.
True, but once it comes out I'm sure it won't be too long before you could get the GSM side unlocked and then use a local overseas SIM card which would provide much better rates.

Sure, if you only care about outbound calls. If you need to be reachable at *your* phone number, though, that won't work.

Plenty of people travel on business and need one phone number they can be reached at wherever they are.
...
It may not sell well as far as consumers go but for our business customers thats a whole different story... 😉
