Everyone is doing it?

I am seeing people comparing Verizon to Sprint and ATT. Why? $5 a month was not a bad deal. Just because the competition is doing it we should too? What was wrong with the way it was before? I use mobile web a lot. I use it mostly at night so voice mins are not a concern for me. The new plan would cost me around $30 more a month. If I were to switch my plan I would have to get the Vcast package and pay $15 a month instead of $5. We don't have Vcast in my area so it would be a waste for me.
To me this just looks like a way for Verizon to get people to pay more.
wow you view 1500 mobile web pages a month. SOunds like you need a pda or something anyway, if you are on the web that much i would get the new pearl with unlimited for $30. Plus if you currently have the $5 pack this does not change that, it only app...

Sprint charges for data like this so they can roam off of Verizon's network. Verizon will be expanding data usage in roaming areas and vastly growing its VCAST/EVDO coverage. Or so the story goes. So if in a year our data coverage map looks like an...

New VZW Changes

After reading a few posts, I think I need to be the voice of reason. VZW has made two SIGNIFICANT policy changes in the last month that continues to carry them ahead of the rest of the so called contenders. Let me explain...

First, considering the NEW Nationwide calling plans that just started. Because they bill in per MB usage, it is going to be a drastic improvement over past plans, and far better anything any other competitor is offering. You will no longer be billed airtime for any data sessions. From here on, ALL airtime will be available for voice usage. No more disappearing minutes. Second, the rates for data usage compared to other carriers is NO COMPARISON. Take a look at the numbers. Current billing rates are, AT&T: $.01/KB equa...

For someone like me, The new plans hurt. I am a heavy web user. I use it mostly at night. Most months I use about 700 to 800 night & weekend mins. and about 200 to 300 peak. I checked my data used the past 2 months and under the new plans I would have...

The really cool thing about this that helps me out is that i can now use picture and video messaging in extended areas(outside verizon's network). I can also use mobile web and get it now outside the network. Because now they are on a data usage syst...

new customers only?

That'll make people switch over...

....and leave.
Any one who changes their plan actually. You can keep the plan you're on as long as you don't need to add a line or change minutes.
...
Let me clarify this for you and from the story. The new Nationwide plans take effect 11-1 and anyone who joins VZW, changes their calling plan, or purchases equipment that requires the plan (Voyager) will have to take the Nationwide plan. If you have ...

I just called verizon about this new so-called mobile web price change. the BIg part missng from the article is that no matter how little you use per month, its always gonna cost 1.99 minimum for a megabyte you didnt use a month. The thieves round up...

What your all missing

If you get the V-Cast $15 package it saves you from ever paying those 1.99/mb fees. If you EVER plan on downloading get V-cast. Its free for the first month people. So if your only getting ringtones. Download them all within the first month and CANCEL it. 🙄

AT&T & Sprint are doing this too

Albeit slightly differently. I suppose you could try and break it down to see who has the best deal for whatever type of customer. Sprint does this so that their customers can roam off of Verizon's towers.

I support this move on two conditions. My Verizon reps and the training I took says that this change will bring about more revenue for expanding EVDO coverage, and picture and video messaging, mobile web, and a few other applications on extended network. If within the year these things start to happen, then this is a good move. If not, it's just another example of a company trying to nickel-and-dime customers.
AT&T: $.01/KB=$10.24/MB

Sprint: $.03/KB=$30.72/MB

Verizon is MUCH cheaper at $1.99/MB

It's a cool change, but Verizon has horrible VCast content and limited WAP access. The packages are way better then AT&T's offering, but no where near as good as Sprint. So it really doesn't mean anything to me or more advanced EV-DO users.

eventually it was going to happen...

Airtime for data usage was something I really liked about Verizon.T-mobile has it too which is very cool.Unfortunate Verizon is changeing that... Another thing I like about verizon is that picture and video is included with messaging... which isnt included in sprint with out paying an additional 15 dollars.(ugh!) I would switch to t-mobile or Verizon if night and weekends were bumped down to 7!(can you tell which company I am with?)

An inconvenient math

The new pricing is a really scary thought- a carrier trying to 'align' itself with other carriers. Truly speaking however, if you were paying for mobile web (5 dollars a month) for minimal use or even basic use for e-mail or quick headlines, you'll still only be paying 1.99 to 5.97 (1-3mb). Yes they are rounding but how many users out there were unaware of Sprint's policies when going on a pics-sending spree?

I'm not trying to give Verizonwireless light of what they're doing.

Those who live in rural areas without Vzw MMS will now have the ability to, including BREW apps. Its the lesser of two evils, the people who do a lot of MMS and customers who won't use mobile web or brew apps are well off. Those who download ring tones, surf WAP ...

F Verizon

Seriously, they just irrate me in general, overpriced and overrated. Thank god in Phoenix there are other good cell phone service providers so I dont have to deal with thier dictatorship like ways. They should change thier slogan to "Verizon Wireless, we know whats best for you"!
FYI most of the other carriers bill data usage this way expect they do it in KB not MB. Little comparison for you, AT&T charges $.01/KB which is $10.24/MB and sprint charges &.03/KB which is $30.72/MB and Verizon just charges a flat $1.99/MB. When you...

VZW is the only one worth a lick in the Phoenix area. And VZW is no more overpriced than AT&T. Research always helps.

I wish...

I wish Sprint would get with this program.. If you wanna download a SINGLE ringer.. youre getting the shaft. Oh, you could pay 15 bucks for vision for a month and download a few.. but seriously!??!
(example: Welcome to the Jungle: 123kb, at 3 cents/kb, would cost you 3.69... PLUS the 2.50 for the ringer, you just paid over 6 bucks for ONE ringer, and thats NOT factoring the time you browse around and look for one you want.)
-------------------

On the other hand.. no one would have a use for the 15$ vision pack if we did it like that. So I do see it both ways, but man, the structure of it sucks for casual users.
