Wait, isnt WiMAX a 3G technology?

but sprint is calling it 4G.

this is all so funny. But its cool that they (those wireless gurus) finally accepted another technology besides the 5 originals.
EV-DO is 3G. Isn't WiMAX faster than that?

WiMAX isn't a cellular technology, or G tech for short. WiMAX is actually a technology that was developed for city wide wifi but wasn't accepted due to everyone having to purchase WiMAX hardware. Sprint has taken it as their 4G and now it officially...

technically it is 3G, because there still is no official 4G, however since it is paired with LTE, which we out here in non-engineer land have been calling 4G but the ITU also calls 3G, then we will call wimax 4G. it only makes sense.

Maybe we can call it 3.5G like how EDGE was 2.5G

Or 3.99G
...
