GSM 850 & Unlocking

I was wondering...will the T-Mobile Sidekick III have GSM 850?

Also, does anyone know if this will be a tough phone to get unlocked?

Ian
T-Mobile will have the 850MHz band on it.
As it says on our spec page, (you know, the one you had to click on to get to this page, 😉 ) yes, the US version does have GSM 850.
...
The bigger question is why do they have the 850 band on it? T-Mobile does not support the 850 spectrum only Cingular. I meant T-Mobile does have roaming agreements, but something seems weird for this one.

I hope Danger is getting smart and is wor...

Help me decide !

Ok, I want to buy sidekick 3 but I'm not sure. In Poland there are no sidekicks , so I will need to buy it from , I guess, USA or UK. Before I will do it I need to be sure that I will be happy with using sidekick 3. I was searching for opinions of others and the comments were good as weel as bad. The bad ones discouraged me to buy it but I really want it ! I'm not gonna give up so easly. I need a pro opinion of users of Sidekick 3. But honest opinion! Tell me everything about sidekick (bad and good things). Please.

NEW S!DEK!CKS

T-Mobile also might be getting another phone to add to their Sidekick selection. It is apparently called the "Sidekick Slide". From the pictures that have been released the Sidekick Slide looks to look like the same swivel screen and full QWERTY keyboard. This time the keypad is made of hard plastic buttons although the shape is in circles. The color scheme of the phone seems to be in black and purple. It has 1.3 Mega Pixel camera. It looks to be thinner the sidekick 3 all around. It also might have been designed by Motorola because the left side of the phone features a Motorola logo. It also had a t-mobile badge on the other right side. Other features that this is rumored to have is bluetooth, and MP3 player with a memory card slot. It look...

prepaid help plz

My cousin is giving me her sidekick 3 😁 (because shes getting a Treo) and I have a prepaid sim card already but her sidekick wasn't prepaid. How do i use my prepaid sim card with a non prepaid sidekick? 🤨 Thanks in advance
If you just want to use it as a phone then you can press the menu button (the button with 3 parallel lines) and the L button at the same time when the "waiting for activation" screen appears. This will only allow you use the SK3 for the phone and SMS...

Any Users with Cingular?

Have any of you used this phone with Cingular's network? Im planning on buying it unlocked on ebay, and i wanted to make sure what features will work on Cingulars network. Im pretty much only wanting to make calls, text, go on AIM, and go on the Web. If any of you have used this phone on Cingulars Network or know somebody that has used the sidekick 3 on cingulars network....please help!...thanks!
Only voice calls and SMS will work. You have to have a Sidekick plan for the web and AIM to work. Since Cingular doesn't sell the SK, they won't have a SK plan.
...
I work for T-Mobile and I can confirm that the SK3 does NOT work for any service but T-Mob. Like Cwosigns said, all you'll be able to do with it is use it as a phone and send SMS.

Took Longer then I thought

When Cingular bought ATT that left suncom on its own. I figured tmobile would have bought them earlier as they have no coverage in NC and most of SC. I think its great for tmobile to be able to move into two hole states without haveing to build out a network in both states.
I agree I thought it would have happened sooner. I would guess that the cost of a roaming agreement was far more cost effective then to just buy them out. All the regional "little guys" are being scooped up left and right. I'm just glad TM finally ...

Yea that is very true. I think it was about time for them to purchase a company. I don’t think that SunCom is the ideal candidate though, because I think there are others.

Former Suncom Employee perspective

I worked at Suncom from 2001- August 2003, I loved working for them and enjoyed the small team spirit that we shared in Financial services. I met some life long friends while working there ( Chris, Don, etc). After leaving Suncom I have worked for every major cell phone provider and the team spirit that I loved at Suncom has never been duplicated... Verizon comes close. The problem with Suncom early on was that relied to heavily on Sales and not retention of customers, and that the company execs worked in a totally different state and to me mismanaged company resources.

I hope the very best to all the employees at Suncom and that buyout helps you guys out.
Sorry I have to laugh my friend. You cannot put Suncom and Verizon in the same sentence. Verizon knows how to make money Suncom knows how to lose.

My view (extended.)

I mentioned this in the Suncom forum so might as well put it in this one also. Just wanted to note that T-mobile USA is purchasing this company for the amount I mentioned. $1.6B for outstanding shares and $.8B of debt. To a total of $2.4B. There will be synergies of $1b so that will basically mean that the purchase was $1.4B. moreover, the purchase allows for more capacity onto its network by up to 20 million customers. makes each subscriber that Sun has, which is 1.1 million, on the $1.4B net purchase price, for $1,272 per subscriber, which is cheap. Without the synergies in place it would cost $2,181 per subscriber, which is also a pretty cheap valuation.

(I said Synergies again. 🤣 )
who knows the customer base of Suncom?
I heard it's around 1 million
then it'll be 30 million by the end of the year
a little milestone

No problem. You do your thang over there and I hope you stay safe. Keep in mind when you look over the messages, that the opportunity is great with the merger, but execution is key. That 14 million extra pops helps and economically wise if T-mobile ca...

Suncom Spectrum

How much spectrum do they actually have in the different areas they serve?
Carolinas, some of Georgia, Tennessee, all of Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands all in the 1900 band.
...
They have a very good size position. If I remember correctly, I think they have more than 10MHz+ in each of the markets they serve. You can go here, http://www.suncom.com/investor_relations/mark et_area.shtml, to see. If you cant for any reason I will ...

I am still trying to locate the exact spectrum positions, but what I can tell is that on average they have 30MHz across its Southeastern footprint. I will try to find more exact data.

This Will Hopefully Answer Some Questions

T-Mobile USA, Inc. and SunCom Wireless Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: TPC) announced today that they have entered into a definitive merger agreement for the acquisition by T-Mobile USA of all of the outstanding shares of common stock of SunCom, for an aggregate of approximately $2.4 billion in cash and assumed debt. This includes cash payment of approximately $1.6 billion and $0.8 billion net debt. T-Mobile USA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG (NYSE: DT).

The acquisition will further enhance T-Mobile’s network coverage in the southeastern United States and the Caribbean through the complementary addition of SunCom’s markets and customers in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. V...

With all those unlimited plans for $59.99 and $79.99 on Suncom's network, will T-mob migrate them all to current T-mobile pricing/coverage?
