AAPL/ NOK shld just buyout MOT

wldnt it be an easy case of putting MOTO out of its misery and under the more capable management from NOK ??

If the MOT-NOK merger would not fly with regulators, how abt AAPL buying out MOT?
AAPL gets an immediate presence in the wireless market (to capitalize the iPhone brand even more).. an iRAZR (lol)

See this article from March.. its kind of making some sense..

Joining up with Motorola could ONLY hurt Nokia. They have absolutely no reason to do so. Maybe to have a better presence in the US, but I think that might be too steep a price to pay.

And after the fiasco that was the original ROKR, I don...

motorola's not in major trouble just yet... this should just be a wake up call for them to get something besides the razr out soon.

and im pretty sure even if apple would buy it (it won't, like Omagus said) they wouldn't create a product with "raz...

Ed Zander

That's not going to help Ed too much, is it?
nadduh.
nope safe to say he is on the way out. ๐Ÿ˜‰

i hope somebody flushes out Ed and his buddies on the board.
It was actually Galvin who came up the RAZR. Not too sure what Zander's done in his time. ๐Ÿคจ

Probably not.

Not Surprised at All, Here's Why

The reason why as an at&t employee I'm not surprised are for 3 main reasons.

1. The Samsung SYNC has out sold every mid range to high end phone (including the razr) on at&t.

2. The c417 since it has been released has absolutely dominated our entry level handset class. Motorola currently doesn't have an answer for it (at least on at&t).

3. The BlackJack has outsold every other smart phone/PDA on at&t with the exception of the Blackberries (only if you add the sales of the pearl/8800/curve/8700).

All in all, Even before these numbers were released, I noticed that 7/10 phones that were leaving my store seemed to be Samsungs. Also, the amount of advertising that at&t did on the BlackJack and SYNC was absolutely sick. And not ment...

Pretty much.

I am also an at&t employee, and I agree, the SYNC dominates my non-converged device sales. I sell more SYNCs than V3's, V3xx's, CU500's, N75's, and w810's combined. Not to mention that, despite this, I get more of the Motorolas I sell ...

Am I the only one who's noticed....

... that Motorola phones are always $50-100 more than a similarly equipped phone from the other manufacturers? Right now the original V3 RAZR is actually $10 more than the SYNC... and the SYNC is better in terms of reception, camera, internet speed, and music player. The V3x is similar in features to the SYNC... but it's $30-50 dollars more.

The Moto Q that AT&T is picking up may be a sweet phone, but if it's twice as pricey as the Blackjack, it'll still be an uphill battle.

No wonder Moto's slipping.
No the Moto Q is not a sweet phone. It sucks.
As far as i know there going to Skip the Moto Q and go with the 3G Q the Q9h or something like that, i mean theres not point in getting the other one when there trying to push 3g, Yes 3G is not everywhere but i mean Verizon kind of over sold the Moto ...

Where's HTC on the list?

๐Ÿคจ
Good question?? It's probably not very high, but they make incredible phones. The Mogul is the SHIZIT!!
The thing with HTC is that they are a very niche manufacturer: smartphones, and Windows-based at that. The reason Nokia and Samsung are tops on the list is because they dominate the entry-level and emerging markets. HTC has zero presence there, thu...

I think both of you are right, I view HTC more of the high end phone maker and maybe there just picky where they go. I mean there stuff is not cheap at all.

Purchasing new Gulfstreams was wise......

Purchased three aircraft over last year and a half.

2006
Gulfstream G450
Gulvstream G550

2007
Gulfstream G450

I assume the GV was for Eddie boy to fly back and forth to San Diego to check on his house being built.

But, in all seriousness this is just another spin of a vicious cycle that began with the failure to move beyond AMPS.

The "me too" RAZR strategy is a joke. MOT was an innovator at one time. But, they think that product proliferation is a winning strategy.

Bound to happen

Samsung is just passing everyone in every category. I remember in 1999 they were the cheap off brand. Last year they became the number one in TV sales, the year before they passed Sony in brand name value. They've been the number one in micro-displays and memory for a while. When will they stop??
This isn't the case anymore, but there used to be a day, that Samsung was the only manfuacterer of DLP tvs.

I know if I were to get a DLP, it would be Samsung, with an LED light engine, because they require less energy.

nokia will always be number one

they just build a great phone.

It wont be long till apple is on the list as one of the top cell phone manufactures....j/k ๐Ÿ˜‰
thats tough, if apple insists on selling at usd 500 pricepoint, esp in usa where majority want free phones. so to go with a brand such as apple, ppl might shell out a grand or so, not 5-6 grand

I'm actually more surprised...

...that Sony Ericsson is fourth ahead of LG. When did that happen? Did it occur with just the most recent reports and has it been that way for a while?
LG and SonyEric generally stay in very close vicintity of each other's market shares.. i think sony eric took over the no4 once their cybershot and walkman brands took off (so I wld say for the last 2-3 quarters)
I agree, I would have guessed that LG would definetly be ahead of SE.

The Cybershot brand is an awesome handset, but it's not yet available through either of the 2 GSM carriers in the U.S.!!!!

Now that's irony.

Samsung is cashing in on a trend that Motorola started. If Samsung didn't make better, cheaper thin phones, Moto would still be #2 instead of just #2.
