memory card

if you thinking about getting a memory card with your new g1 make sure only get a 1gb thats all it supports
let me start by saying that the g1 comes with a 1gig in the box... so no need to buy one and second off, it supports up to an 8gig micro sd high capacity card. i recommend checking your sources!!!
Please stop posting, you are only embarrassing yourself.
That's not true. I don't know the max. off the top of my head, but I am 100% certain it is much more than 1 GB.

G1... no video?

So there's no video capture for the G1...

Forgive my ignorance in these matters, but is this something that could be cleaned up with a software upgrade? Does the G1 have the hardware necessary for video capture, but not the available software? Is it possible that software will be released that will let the G1 capture video using the available hardware?

Also, how likely is it that an application for Pandora radio will be available for Android?

Speaking of Androids, will Brent Spiner ever endorse the G1? Sorry, I'm a Trekkie. Had to ask.
Software could open up the G1 to allow for video recording.
Video is just a software thing. Like the sidekick lx didn't have video recording there was an update that added that. So either google will release an update or a 3rd party will make an app for that.

As for pandora don't hold your breath. Window...

Flash support?

Rich, did they mention if it has Flash built in, since that would be good to have compared the iphone's no flash support.
No, no Flash support on the current version of the included browser.

T-Mobile USA 3G and what other 3G bands

They said it supports T-Mobile's 3G, and it will work in the UK, and Europe.

So does it have AWS 1700, and the Euro 2100 bands?
Smile I called T-Mobile.After I preorded mine friday over the internet.Wich i don't understand why.You can only preorder over the net.But back to my comment.T-Mobile assured me that the G1 is a world phone.

Eric Lin?

Was good ol Eric Lin at the event? I thought he was working for HTC or something. I miss his reviews (No offense new Eric, you're great too)
Yes, he was there. He's now the guy I bug at HTC for info. Not just because I know him; that's his official job these days.

will the touch screen feel spongy like the tmobile wing or will it be solid like the iphone? also i was wondering if its pulse sensative meaning only a touch activates the screen or will a stylus work?
Its like the iphone.
It's capacitive, just like the iPhone.

That's means it's not "spongy", and a stylus will not work (the UI is all designed for fingers, so there would be no point to a stylus... no pun intended. Wink )

Case Finish

Hey Rich I read that the phone had the same rubberized feel like the Wing or the Dash. That would be nice because I think it more comfortable to hold.
No. It is matte rather than glossy, but I don't recall any kind of rubberized soft-touch finish.

Non-isolartin languages...

For those lucky ones who have access to G1...

Does it have fonts for Asian languages?

I've seen pics of it held up next to an iphone, but does anybody know exactly what the dimensions / weight are?
Dimensions: 4.60 x 2.16 x 0.62 inches
Weight: 5.6 ounces

the name!

researching this phone I have come to find out that the name is the Android. I think this phone will be AMAZING and did yall know that google is paying common peope like us to create applications BIG MONEY. it is all on the "android demo" at
Android is the name of Google's OS platform (the main software) not the phone itself. The G1 is simply the first of many phones that will run Android.

Replaceable battery?

I haven't read this anywhere. Is the battery on the G1 replaceable?

Sep 25, 2008, 10:58 AM

OK, but what about the PHONE? Battery??

I'm impressed with the reviews - but would like to see a bit more about the uh, fact that this IS a phone, right?

* No screenshot(s) of the phone dialer / keypad
* One brief screenshot of the voice dialing
* One brief sentence about voice quality

I would like to see the PHONE's qualities reviewed a bit more here. yes yes yes, we all know it can scan barcodes with the camera, and all that cool nifty stuff.

But if making calls on this thing is a pain, or the quality is bad, then....???

Had anyone seen a screenshot of the BATTERY? Can it even be removed?

Google apps

Will the phone support google apps? I use it for looking at Excel spread sheets and Word docs.
During the presentation, one spokesperson said it supported Word doc viewing. He was less sure about Excel. We did not have time to test this, though.
...of course anything can be added via new apps. I'm someone will have a full Office suite available for it before long.

Hardware specs

I wanted to know if you have hardware specs for the G1? You know like CPU speed and if it will have a GPU or if it will be a single chip platform?
i belive its a single chip platform

On screen keyboard?

I prefer a normal keyboard but I do like a onscreen keyboard for a quick message. Is there one that comes built in and if so how is it? I'm sure someone will write an app for it if there is not.
I did not see one, and in fact there were situations (such as composing an SMS) where it prompted me to open the phone and use the hardware keyboard.

Multiple Browsers?!

Can you have multiple browsers open on the phone, similar to the iphone style??

If so, how many? i.e. the iphone can have 8...
From the picture I saw its not really multiple browsers its different tabs(like firefox). Not sure the limit though.

Video Capture & Playback?

I've read that the only video this phone will play is videos found on YouTube......that it won't capture or playback any other type of video. Is this true?
It cannot capture video out of the box. We rec'd conflicting answers when we asked if this might be addressed in an update.

It only does YouTube out of the box, BUT a free video player app for other formats is already available. Smile

Sound and call quality

What is the call quality of this phone? How about the sound quality?

I am concerned because quite a few people said HTC phones (or at least the ones with shape similar to the one of G1) do not have good call quality.

I am on the East Coast, originally from Europe and I travel a lot. T-Mobile has fantastic coverage in my area and in Europe. It's great that Google has teamed up with T-Mobile for this device (and its next generations).
