this is a stupid law

that's all i have to say about it. it's going to drive prices higher for illinois custys because of how the new law will be abused. i hope it doesn't pass their senate, and end up having the rest of the country follow.
YES, the law should not be allowed... some one mentioned 150 for a basic cell phone, i'm think more like 200... We need to find the person who came up or started this law...

Way to go customers. Bitch bitch bitch. Is this what they wanted?

Wrong Direction

I can understand why some might think that this is a good idea. Let me tell you why this is a BAD idea. Lemon laws are good for cars, not wireless devices. The fact is this.. nearly 75% of all wireless phones that are exchanged, because of an apparent defect in the phone, are returned with no problems found. I am not saying that there are not a few bad ones out there, but what this is really saying is that as consumers we have been conditioned into thinking that when a small mishap or function has a glitch, we feel it's the end of the world. There are some wireless companies (I am not going to say who, knowing that there are those of you out there would complain otherwise) doing a good job at replacing equipment when there are legitimate ...

25 dollars a day

amendment to the bill was approved to strike language that would have required a mobile phone operator to pay a consumer $25 for each day the handset is unavailable to the consumer or each day the consumer does not have full access to all of the contracted services.

What happen to payin for what the day is worth... 39.99 price plan/ 30 days in a month = $1.33 a day...

You can say your phone didn't work for two days and get free service each month
jeez that would be rediculous! $25 a day! oh man...

All Cellular Carriers to Pulled Out of IL

Just kidding.... but wouldn't that be a kick in the arse if they did or just offered Pre-paid plans only.

I doubt very many carriers will change their policies or that any manufacture will reduce the warrenty life to less then the standard year for these state laws... I would hope to see how Windows Mobile phones will improve because of laws like this.

Some providers do something similar...

Some companies, if you've needed 3 exchanges for the same phone, will upgrade you to a better model for free. This law isn't really protecting the consumer, it will ultimatly hurt the service providers because it is one more loop-hole for customers. I do believe there should be a law like this, but it needs tweaking, I don't think the end result should be to run from the provider, when it is the phone manufactures. What is Motorolas/Nokias/ anyone's reason to provide better phones if they don't get their wrists slapped?

Purposely create issues

Got bored of your phone after two months? Make it (and the 2 replacements) have issues on purpose... then you get to upgrade!

communist!

“Cellphone companies are merging, competition is decreasing, customer service is deteriorating, and yet California cellphone subscribers have little or no protection against industry abuses,” said 😈 Sen. Alan Lowenthal (D)😈 .

¿¿who voted this guy into office??

The bill moves next to the Senate Appropriations Committee. The legislation comes in response to the California Public Utilities Commission’s decision in 2005 to replace the year-old telecom consumer bill of rights with a rule based on education and enforcement.

It won't work

Few of the phones brought in for warrenty replacement are actually defective. Usually the customer is simply unhappy with their choice or its something else designed into the phone. Everyone was hot for the Razr, too bad it sucked. That doesn't mean it's defective, it was just a choice between the hottest new style and functionality. Once the honeymoon was over people were mad their new Motorola didn't even match LG on signal. Sorry, it was their choice. Wait til people figure out its slower to txt on the Chocolate.

Another problem is, a lot of stores still do warrenty exchanges to keep the customers happy, but with this law they won't because it can come back and bite them. The store techs do not have to rely on the moisture indicators i...

I agree. Most phones are warrantied because of user error or wear and tear. If anything this would just make warranties harder to process. To bad this law was created to help customers of wireless companies when in fact it will likely hinder them i...
