What about Comcast?

I remember reading an article that Comcast wanted to get into wireless and there was even speculation that they might buy out Sprint. But with Alltel on the market, Comcast could jump into wireless.
That's an excellent point. I'm not completely familiar with everything necessary to get it approved by the FCC but something tells me it might be easier for a company currently not involved in wireless communications to acquire them. However, I don't ...

ahhhh

First of all I just wanted to say you guys have been acting like kids, fighting and bickering, all of you putting down all the carriers. I was even reading comments posted up by two people who work for the same company telling each other they were stupid and didn't know what they were talking about. Everyone has their OWN opinions, and judging someone on theirs doesn't make you look any better.

Secondly, I think I am just going to drop my cell phone service all together, this sucks. I have Alltel, and that and Verizon are the only options we have here. If Cingular buys Alltel I will be forced to drop it because there are no Cingular towers in my area, it is forbidden. If Sprint buys it I will also cancel because Sprint sucks in this ...

Acquired Growth vs. Organic Growth

In terms of Verizon Wireless purchasing Alltel, I can't simply that as a good business decision. VZW does a good job of growing organically, and I highly doubt Alltel would sell without a premium. It would only make sense for VZW to buy Alltel if there are enough synergies within the companies.

Alltel, while boasting a large network, would not be the large revenue generator for the other large companies. It would only make sense to "merge" with another large company if the combined company's growth would outpace both individual companies, or the purchase of Alltel would save on roaming costs for the purchasing company. Verizon already has an extensive roaming agreement with Alltel, and it would probably be cheaper to roam on Alltel'...

Here's why I want this to happen:

I would love to see sprint buy alltel (probably won't happen, but here's to hoping)

Alltel is basically the only CDMA carrier that works in Laramie, WY (from the western wireless acquisition.) I work for Sprint, and before years end, I will be attending school in Laramie. If sprint buys, then I can transfer to the old Alltel store out there, and keep my benefits and job and stuff.
So basically, the only reason why you are so high and mighty for Sprint, and bringing everyone else down who disagrees with you is so you can keep your job? Umm, last time I checked I was basing my opinions on what the service is like from each carri...

it has already been said

that verizon lacks the $ to buy another carrier, they would have to buy out vodaphone first before they could buy another domestic carrier.

more than likely it would be sprint, they like buying out everyone and burying themselves into the ground 🙂
Maybe this could benifit verizon if voda doesn't want to contribute it'll give verizon the edge it needs to get voda out at a resonable price. Voda doesn't want out right now so they are asking a lot.

It would be ironic...

...if VZW did buy Alltel. All the VZW fanboys that "accuse" ATT of being number 1 by "buying" subs, would then have their company doing the same. funny stuff 🤣
I don't think Stan Sigman will step down this way then. He will probably say it doesn't count since it was a purchase and not a true passing as far as net adds goes.

Probably a good thing for both VZW and Alltel

The addition of Alltel's exsisting coverage and spectrum would be an awesome compliment to VZW's exsisting infrastructure. Alltel has long been one of VZW's closest roaming partners anyways. This addition would really give VZW a real edge again.
A large part of Alltel's coverage is because of VZW. A large reason they rate so high is because of VZW. A large number of their phones are used by VZW....see a common bond here? I've said for a while that they were the best option for VZW to expand. ...

DOES THIS MEAN...

a rebranding, or will it be like "Alltell, presented by" whoever?
If for some strange reason Sprintel buys it...it'll probably be "Alltell by Sprint/Nextel"...If VZW buys it...it'll just be Verizon Wireless. Granted, yes, there will probably be a timeframe where it is "Alltell from Verizon Wireless" but thats only w...

Another consumer option down the drain

Verizon+Alltel=less consumer choice & higher prices.
Maybe good for both companies, but the consumer will get the shaft with this one.
And how is that supposed to be? Those two companies for the most part don't even sell in the same area.

Just for the record

Verizon doesn't merge with other companies, we buyout other companies. We take a good thing and make it even better.

Stocks

Does Alltel have stocks that can be purchased? I would think now would be a excellent time to purchase shares of Alltel, what do you all think?

I would miss the commercials

I am 100% behind Verizon, but I actualy really enjoy the Alltel commercials. Maybe Verizon would hire whoever does the Alltel ads to do theirs!!!
they are quite funny . . . and realistic 🙂 no hating, just relating reality 🤣

Flame?

Why would THIS start any type of flame war?

So Verizon buys Alltel and becomes the largest carrier in the US subscriber-wise.

So?
I'm not sure why this would be a flame war starter either - VZW will be the biggest; whatever.

I'm just happy to see more firm news of it pop up. AKA - if it's on phonescoop, it must be true.
