Acquired Growth vs. Organic Growth
Alltel, while boasting a large network, would not be the large revenue generator for the other large companies. It would only make sense to "merge" with another large company if the combined company's growth would outpace both individual companies, or the purchase of Alltel would save on roaming costs for the purchasing company. Verizon already has an extensive roaming agreement with Alltel, and it would probably be cheaper to roam on Alltel'...

Here's why I want this to happen:
Alltel is basically the only CDMA carrier that works in Laramie, WY (from the western wireless acquisition.) I work for Sprint, and before years end, I will be attending school in Laramie. If sprint buys, then I can transfer to the old Alltel store out there, and keep my benefits and job and stuff.
