What this means...

Is that Verizon is cashing in huge on this. We are going to be charged per kilobyte for the banners, and Verizon is charging companies to advertise. Spectacular

My first thoughts as well. I guess they can have their cake and eat it too!

Verizon is such a big 800 pound gorilla of a company, i wish they would get sued for millions for anti-trust violations or something, this is unbelievable they are charging for ads on their customers web surfing portals.
...
Extra clicks, clunkier navigation, waiting for download time of advertisements (on my dime!)... This all spells trouble for the user experience. The ads better load quickly, disappear quickly and be entertaining for the advertising to work. Advertisin...

I wont allow this to happen

I pay $15 a month for unlimited web and v-cast.. Its not right to advertise on a service that your paying for. Ads are for things like CNET vids, and this website has an ad right aside this column. I already noticed they stick "the more you know" spoofs at the end of some clips I watch. Now if im stuck with an ad ,worse if at the beginning of a clip, I'm paying for ads to annoy me.

Not gonna happen.. I will personaly call verizon everyday and complain.. and I will complain to everyone. Even better I will complain to whoever is advertising on my phone.

So.. the day I get an ad in my face is the day I make verizon staff miserable.
Its the whole mentality of this company that is offensive. This is not surprise, considering the way they soak customers in general, but I think you're right and call away!
I predict a lot of nagging in your future Skywalker... I mean TheBlueCat. So good luck 🙂

You must irritate your cable company and internet provider.

This does raise an interesting question. How would you feel about viewing ads in return for free mobile internet and certain advanced services?

Oh Shush! You will allow and take it like a man 😛

Sprint??

They say that Sprint was the first to have ads on their Decks...yet if you look back to the Month in question there are no press releases or news stories that Sprint is even participating in the Ads on Deck scheme.

This is the only article that mentions it. Makes me wonder...if Sprint really is on the game for ad sponsership, or if it was said by a VZW spokesperson to make them look like they are joining suit.. *shrugs*

I'm gonna do some massive research on this one.
come on. your going to research. do you really think the article was POSTED by verizon. lets think.

This sucks, but...

...I'm sure all other companies will follow suit soon. Get ready for adds everytime you make a call or something stupid like that...

Cell phone advertising - a growing trend

I don't think anybody is surprised that Verizon is trying to rake in ad revenues via their network. But, if they would only come out with a cell phone interface that supports ads in a more compelling way, then they might actually be effective for marketers. Now, they're just annoying. When will the network operators focus on cell phone GUI - that's the way to improve consumer adoption of mobile services, including advertising.
I agree 😎
Not to mention..that I was checking out Sprints phones..the most that could be considered ads are their content partners, like Sirius...which were txt links to the service..and was relevant.

(AKA goto music and theres the Sirius link)

oh there you are big brother!

not to be too much of a "sidewalk doomsday prophet" but this really seems like a first step to completely invasive marketing strategies. Essentially, we currently have a limited power to avoid these ads by not using the internet, soon we may not (as pointed out in another post). Additionally, are the customers getting anything back for this? No, of course not. And why should the backbone of consumerism (the consumers) recieve ANY sort of benefit from conglomerates? I just hope the GSM carriers take a long, long time to follow verizon's lead.
You used too many big words for me 😢
Well I don't think its very smart to ad-sponser something your users pay for. That's why I'm all for things like Sirius Satelite Radio.

Ad sponserships should be to services that are not paid for by the users.

I was checking out a sprint phone ...
