I can't wait for the instinct to come out..but it doesn't have IM?

So I was reading the review, and it said it doesn't have IM capabilities?

its not a big deal because the phone is still amazing..
It may not have it now however, it will soon, that is one thing the reviewer could have mentioned.

Holy Crap People!!!

Wow. Some of you are acting like this is the end of the world because one website didn't give the phone a glowing review. Get a grip.

Constantly griping about the software "maybe" not being up to date it just making you look stupid.

To the rest of you that are calling it crap: Have you really, actually used it AND tested it out? Comparing this to the Glyde is not a fair comparison.

Now, the phone is being compared to the iphone for a reason. Have any of you looked at the videos on I have and they DIRECTLY compare the Instinct to the first iphone. Thats one of many reasons why comparing the Instinct and the iphone is a totally fair comparison. What sucks for Sprint is that the iphone 2 was announced earli...
they didn't get a bad one. it was user error with was blamed on the device.

You should know as a technician. How many people have come in with something so simple that they thought was a bad phone, but turned out to be user error. Watch the video ...
I'm going to acknowledge right now that there is always some variation in hardware quality and other units may perform slightly better.

I doubt that we received a "bum" unit, though, since this one acted just like the other ones we tried pre...
If it acted just like the ones from the trade show what does that tell you? In my thread I listed 9 features you guys did not test of which the iphone only has "1". Myself and many others find that very strange. By the way, folks who have been able to...

This IS Why Phonescoops Review IS Biased And Unfair

The reviewer did not talk about FULL GPS (iphone does not have software to run it), Live Search, Voice Command, Visual Voicemail, MMS, picture and video mail, video recording, OTA music download, etc. Those are key features and selling points of the Instinct, the iphone only has 1 out of 9 of those features.

The review also said the camera wasn't good, well go over to, a few folks have been able to purchase the Instinct yesterday, they posted pictures taken by the Instinct, the pictures came out damn good.

As for the $100 Mil campaign, for those of you who believe those youtube videos are part of the campaign you're sadly mistaken. If you have gone to the movies lately (passed month almost) you would have seen t...
Forgot to mention that one of phonescoops reviewers called the Instinct an iphone-clone which is saying it is trying to be like the iphone or is copying the iphone. There is nothing in Sprints advertising which labels it that!
Scorpio I just wanted to say that I agree with you 110% on everything you just said. I read that same review and the entire time going while reading through it I just kept thinking of all the missing Info. Not to mention they rated it poorly on recept...

Good posting! Wink
The phone sucks just deal with it! Razz Sprint users have got to be the biggest cry babies Rolling Eyes

Wow that's an intelligent comment, you can't dispute the facts so you just spew garbage. Rolling Eyes
Fair evaluation?! I pointed out key features they DID NOT cover most of which the iphone can't do. For a device such as the Instinct one would think an objective reviewer would cover all the features and not point out the negatives based on THEIR pers...
If you cant provide anything intelligent don't bother responding!
Exactly, Wink for what ever reason they can't comprehend that, they either chose to be ignorant or they are. Speaking of Jobs and his thirst for control, ATT will not make a profit until 2010 due to the revenue sharing deal they signed with Apple.

Let's compare your review to others

Since Rich mentioned other reviews were coming to similar conclusions as their review, lets actually find out.

PC Magazine:

" know what? It's not bad, mostly because of its excellent touch screen, which is accurate and instinctive, and a far cry from the frustrating experience you get with the Samsung Glyde. Maybe this slightly boxy phone doesn't have all the sex appeal of Apple's phone, but it's pretty snazzy in its own right, and has enough pluses to satisfy those who can't part with their Sprint Simply Everything plan.",2817,2317478,00.asp »

"Snappy Interface: Other touchscreen phones we've seen have annoying split-second lags. The Instinct, for the most part, does not."

Ouch!! Good one. Wink

I really expected more from Eric and Rich, really. I'm dissapointed in you two.

Normally, you guys do some great reviews and ignore some of the pre-release hardware issues. You BLATENTLY ignored that the unit you have, despite having the new software, is still a beta unit in regards to the hardware.

Signal Strength, Touchscreen issues, etc. Can only currently be attributed to a bad test unit. You weren't even able to test all the features of it yet.

To compare your review to maybe a new car review would show where you guys failed to deliver. Most brand new cars are test mules or pre-production versions. The magazines usually test them the same way they normally do, but at least notate what deficiencies could be caused by the fact that it's not an official version, and even still some performance will vary between...
The software has been for the most part been finalized as of this past week. Might I remind you the multi-touch UI of Apple's iPhone was still functional-if-unpolished at the January unveiling, and several weeks before its release it was perfectly use...
It's not pre-production.

If it were, Sprint would certainly have made that very clear to us and only let us write a "preview". But no, they sent us an official review unit to ... review.

None of the issues were show-stopping bugs or glitches tha...
I don't know where you're getting your info from, Sprint said the phones shipped to the press are review purposes only and ARE NOT final versions. Try speaking to someone in the corporate office. Also, the Glyde and the Instinct do not have the same o...

Intinct or Blackberry Curve

I want to get a new SmartPhone which I will use for business. I am a Sprint customer so no matter which phone I get, I will have Sprint coverage.

Off all the things these new phones can do, actually making calls in my #1 priority.

I have almost 0 connection issues with my old, Samsung i500. I expect my next phone to work at least as good (for calling).

Which should I get?
Get the Curve it has great reception an a loud ear piece volume. I would pass on the Instinct.

This site has lost the creditbility it once had.

Now there's nothing but fanboys and trolls. Too hard to filter through the crap to find the info you really need.

They allow these trolls to run around through the posts, posting pointless derogatory stuff, and then IF it's reported, they delete it, but still let the trolls go on trolling.

This site used to be a place to come to for info on any new phone. It was credible, and unbiased, and allowed actual users of the phones to discuss their personal experiences with it. I used to give out the url to this site to anyone who needed more info about upcoming phones, but now with the direction this site has taken, I can no longer rely on the information found here. If I can't trust this site to be a reliable source of information, then I ...
Sorry you feel the need to leave PS, but you're clearly putting your emotions first. Take a deep breath and back away from the fire, then maybe just maybe you can get some clear prospective of this situation.

To quick to scream witch!

I don't know why people are getting so worked up about this. Yes, the review is pretty much the exact opposite of my experience of the device, as is true of many of us. With this review as the exception, and not the rule, I have always found the reviews here to be helpful, and insightful. It, then, doesn't make sense that they would throw this one particular review. Many of you have said that it appears that they received a bum device. Maybe that's it.

To those of you that say you work for Sprint, I am embarased to read some of the things that you've said. If you work for Sprint, act like professionals when you are touting that fact.

To Eric and Rich, thanks for the review, and your honest experience with the device.

Sprint Employee's Impressions of the Instinct

Hey all,

First let me say, that even though I work for the company, I have absolutely no problem giving my honest opinion about our products. I have been an advid user of PDA's for a few years now and currently have a Touch and a Centro. That being said, let's continue...

I got my hands on the Instinct a few days ago and this phone has to be the most intuitive PDA style phone I've ever used.

The touch screen, contrary to the report found on this site, is extremely well designed and has awesome response. I'm not sure if the reviewer got the lemon of the bunch, but I was able to type without a hastle at all (could be because I'm used to touch screen typing due to having the Touch).

The menu system is pretty impressive to. I had no ...

Wow! Look at all the Instinct fanboys here!!

I'm getting a kick out of reading the bashing going on in this discussion about the Instinct review. Reminds me of the chatter over on the Apple iphone forum, where any critical comment about the iphone is countered with a barrage of defensive posts from the Apple fanboys.

Keep up the posts, kiddies -- this is fun!

For the benefit of the uninformed, here's the definition from Wikipedia:

"Fanboy (sometimes spelled fanboi) is a term used to describe an individual who is devoted to a single subject in a fanatical manner, or to a single point of view within that subject, often to the point where it is considered an obsession. Fanboys remain loyal to their particular obsession."

did you forget about this?
We don't typically review navigation features. We mentioned it in the "extras" section. The review unit we have was not set up to access the Navigation service, otherwise we would have commented slightly more in depth on it.

It is now just a waiting game

The real test for this phone will be when it get's relesed to the public on friday. Until then all of this debate and arguing will not solve a thing and doesn't really matter. So let's see what the general public has to say. But I have used it and plan on buying one for myself. Very Happy

i have played with the instinct for hours and the review of this phone is sounds like they got a defective one because i have had near zero issues like the one they pointed out.... Eh?
Exactly, it's like the reviewer was looking for negatives in the Instinct. He/she probably isn't aware that the Instincts shipped to the press are not final versions. Sprint also said Rev-A is not running on the browser or Sprint TV. Rev-A is being f...
I don't think it's defective. I tried it as well, and noticed the same issues. Other reviewers have said similar things about it already.
All the people complaining about the review seem to work for Sprint!
Guess they were putting all their eggs in this "instinct" basket and thought it would rock the wireless world like the iPhone has.
The fact you're calling it an iphone-clone shows bias. Sprint may be marketing the Instinct as a competitor to the iphone however, there is nothing in their marketing which calls the Instinct an iphone-clone. All of the reviewers who label the Instin...

if it's true what everybody is saying that phonescoop is biased.... eesshhh... Confused

Bogus Review

I have used the instinct and have not encountered any problems that they did. Maybe they had a bad one! Paranoid
Sounds to me like they got a beta version. I work tech support for Sprint and I only got to see the final version a few days ago. The touchscreen worked much better on the final than it did on the beta version I used.

Also I think the icons and col...
