Didn't Metro/T-Mo already introduce RCS?

I think Metro rolled it out first, then T-mo introduced a version as well.

I dislike using Google Messenger also, it sucked in my experience, not to mention that using a Google product such as this means you are willingly giving your chat logs to the government, as Google has already done many many times.

As opposed to something like WhatsApp, which encrypts your communications and is a company who actually tries to protect their users data. It seems Do No Evil has went by the way side.

Wary

I've tried Google's Messenger as my SMS client in the past wasn't happy with it. MMS messages if they didn't download on first try. I work in a basement of a building where Sprint coverage is bad, so I often have to download messages later when I'm outside.
