since when is the BlackBerry Classic mid-range?

The BlackBerry Classic is by far the best phone BlackBerry has made in YEARS. I hope that at least, if they are focusing on nicer devices that one of them continues the Classic's line
It's not a top-end phone by any modern standard. It has a slow, old processor and only an 8-megapixel camera. Mid-range is accurate, if not generous.

The classic is definitely mid-range. The older Z30 is substantially better in all spec categories, including processor, and the Passport is an absolute powerhouse.

In other news, Apple All But Gives Up On Smartphones, announces that it will only release one or two models per year.
Think they found a niche?
I think when John Chen said "We make four phones a year." he was talking about their production volume not the number of models 😉
It's true that Apple only churns out 1-2 models/year, but that's where the similarities end.

I haven't carried a Blackberry for ten years now, but I always appreciated Blackberry's (a) superb battery life, (b) reliability, (c) overall efficiency. I know that was then and this is now, but still, credit where it is due.
